A Winery Wedding

April 20th, 2008 @ 2:00 pm by Mrs. Cupcake

This past Saturday I went to visit a college friend in New Brunswick, New Jersey. It was such a gorgeous day outside, so we decided to take a ride out to a local winery for a tasting.
Now, you might not think that New Jersey is prime real estate for a winery (you Californians, stop laughing….), but I was pleasantly surprised at how sweet the Silver Decoy Winery in East Windsor was. It was started in 2001 by a group of friends who now host free wine tastings on weekends. Our gracious and incredibly friendly host, Brian, let us taste several wines, and chit-chatted with us about the winery and his adorable chocolate lab, Chester, who greets all the guests. He offered us each a full glass at one point (I went with the Pinot Grigio!) and encouraged us to explore the grounds and the rows of vines.
While we were there I noticed a photo album of an outdoor wedding that took place at Silvery Decoy last fall. Although the Silver Decoy website needs a bit of work, I did manage to find a few photos of the charming nuptials that took place there.

Here comes the bride….

All photos found here

I wish I could find more photos of the wedding online as the ones in the album were really lovely, but nonetheless I love how simple and sweet everything looks, just by highlighting the gorgeous land covered with rows of vines. If I had the guts to have an outdoor wedding (East Coast weather isn’t always the most predictable!), I think a winery would be an amazing place.

Miss Penguin is having her wedding at a California winery…. anyone else out there having a winery wedding?

Having a winery wedding is a popular choice here in Northern CA because there are so many beautiful wineries to choose from! We are also hopping on that train:) We are having ours at a private estate owned by a couple who harvest grapes for many of the local wineries.

I’m having my ceremony at my family’s vineyard & winery in……Minnesota! :) A lot of California wineries are actually buying land in Minnesota for vineyards since the university here has come up with some great new grape varietals! We’ve already hosted a couple weddings and there will be a couple more this year, mine included!
One last year was actually a commitment ceremony that was so great! I have some great pictures from the reception, they hung mason jars along the outside of the tent with candles inside and also lined some stone steps with the jars as well.

I am having my wedding at a winery. Initially, i was against the idea of a winery wedding, as I don’t drink wine! But I saw the spot and fell in love, plus the food will be amazing!

My fiancee and I are getting married at an inn that backs up to a winery, so we get all the privacy of the inn with the beautiful vines as our backdrop.

We are getting married on a vineyard in Sonoma this August. There have been a few things that are logistically a bit difficult (like shuttling them in small busses to the middle of the vineyard) - but it has been worth it as we love our venue.

We are getting married at a winery in Calistoga this October. It’s gorgeous in N Cal in the fall, but there is always the small possibility of rain in the fall. We’re crossing our fingers!

Our wedding will be at a small winery also in California next June. We decided on a winery because we both wanted that informal, simple atmosphere that you were talking about. It’s hard not to fall in love with the winery feel when you’re there and everything is green and in bloom…so romantic! Since it’ll be outside and in the middle of June, we’re also putting up a tent so we don’t boil under the hot sun since I don’t think the sun will be setting until after 8 or so. Also since you’re surrounded by nature already, you really don’t have to do much in the way of flowers and decorations at all! We’re really forward to it!

griffen - My husband and I LOVE V. Sattui! We plan to visit there again when we’re in Napa next weekend!

We also got married at a winery - Garre Winery in the Livermore, CA wine region. It was AMAZING!! Growing up in Minnesota, I always wanted to have a winery/outdoor wedding, but it’s hard there to plan one as it can rain or snow any day of the year. I’ve been to many a rained-out Minnesota wedding held indoors at the last minute. So living in CA, we took advantage of the dry fall and had our wedding at a winery in October, 2006. We loved it!

I am getting married in August, 2008 (only a few shorts months away!) at Falkner Winery in Temecula, Ca. I can hardly wait. It was everything we wanted, beautiful views and an all inclusive package. It will be an outside ceremony and reception but the wedding won’t start until 6 p.m and the garden area where the ceremony/reception will be is shaded by very large trees. it was the first winery we went to and we totally fell in love with every aspect of it.

I am getting married at a vineyard in Mt. Airy, Maryland called Linganore Vineyards in September 2008. The place is beautiful and more perfect that what I had ever imagined for my wedding day! It fits perfectly for us since we got engaged at Domaine Carneros Vineyard in California :) Love it!

I am getting married at a Winery in Temecula, CA. It is actually a ranch/winery they have 3 teams of Belgian Draft horses that are in pens all around the main area. We loved the laid back feel compared to other wineries. Plus they gave us a killer deal which is usually never the case at wineries.
