Trying to plan a wedding in a new city, not to mention a new country, is tough, but the fact that we can get legally married here more than makes up for it! The wedding will be an opportunity for most of our family and friends to see our new city for the first time so it will be both a wedding and a reunion. Besides my future wife, I am also madly in love with a good bargain, Swedish pastries, Tivo, and my two dogs and calico cat (in no particular order).

Thumbs Up For Netbride!

April 21st, 2008 @ 12:52 pm by Miss Gingerbread

I ordered my wedding dress from Netbride and I am happy to report that I received it in 7 weeks! I did rush order it for an extra $50 to be on the safe side. I think it cut the expected wait time from 16 weeks max to 12 weeks max. Ordering was simple. I just used the measurement guidelines from their website, which resulted in an accurate size.

I was very happy with the service that I received from Netbride. They were really nice and very helpful and agreed to contact me beforehand to let me know the country of origin of my dress, as I considered having it sent to my mom’s house if it was made in China. By the way, the dress was made in China, but I decided to just have it shipped directly to me because the order came in while my mom was visiting me and I wanted my dress NOW! Besides, I really didn’t want to have to travel with my dress by airplane and would have had to declare it at customs anyway.

I got the tracking information from UPS on a Wednesday and saw that it should get to me by Friday. I called ahead to UPS to find out what the exact duties and taxes were so that I could have the appropriate payment on hand to receive the order (check or money order, no cash or credit cards). It was *gulp* $262! So much for my dreams of saving big on my internet purchase.

We spent the day waiting around for the dress. There was a lot of staring out the window.

(That’s our dog, Henry keeping watch.)

Finally, the knock on the door came and I handed the UPS driver my check as she was walking up the stairs.

Here’s the dress in the UPS box. Hehe.

And here’s the dress on the model.

While Miss GB 2.0 has seen photos of the dress and even the dress itself, she’s not going to see me in the dress until our wedding day. She’s not very good with surprises, so I don’t see any point in posting any photos of me in the dress before hand because she will peek!

@Ms. Lover: The Netbride price was almost 30% less than what I saw in store.

Gorgeous! I tried on that dress, I loved it but the straps didn’t really suit me. I can’t wait to see it on!

Beautiful! Can you tell me the designer/style number? It’s almost exactly what I’m looking for (and I heart the sound of 30% savings!). Thank you!

@Kara: It’s Watters & Watters 9040B. The sash comes in many other colours, by the way. If you are ordering within the U.S., there’s no sales tax, which increases the savings :)

oh what a pretty dress! Just curious, is Miss GB 2.0 wearing a wedding gown as well? I think that would be fantastic if she did!

Gorgeous! I bought mine online too and it was just so much cheaper I couldn’t believe it. And I didn’t have to deal with the annoying salespeople saying homophobic things!

Beautiful dress! How did you know what size to get? Did you try on the same/ similar dress somewhere else? (Maybe I missed that part)

Love your dress. Also love that the model they are using isn’t an underfed adolescent. I’m sure it’s going to look lovely on you!

oh miss GB! you made me so excited with this post! i was just looking at netbride wondering if they were reliable and all… but now i’m a little scared because of what you say about duties :( *sigh*

Miss GB 2.0 is still on the hunt for the perfect outfit. In the 5 years that we have been together, she has never worn a dress though :) Once she has her wedding attire selected, I am sure it will warrant it’s own post!

@vy: The duties were a real bummer, but I think I still saved some. If your dress is manufactured in North America, you won’t have to pay duties. I’d recommend that you email or call Netbride to ask them about the specific gown you have in mind. Otherwise, expect to pay 18% in duties, plus GST and PST.

@Erica: I just followed the sizing chart on their website: http://www.netbride.com/size-charts-index.php

Oohhh, it’s sooo pretty!! Lol- that’s funny that she’s nosy. It’s too bad for us, though- I wanna see the dress on you! Goodness, it’s a gorgeous dress.

And what is your lovely lady wearing?? Hmm??

misspurple says:

Ohmygosh, it’s gorgeous. Did you have to kick 2.0 out of the house the moment it arrived so you could put it on and prance around?!?

Beautiful dress. I live in Ontario and got my 6 BM dresses from Netbride. We saved a few hundred dollars, however, they arrived today and I had to pay $206 in duty…eeek!!!

That was my dress as well and Pearl’s Place also carries it, for those looking for a Watters 9040B

Miss Gingerbread says:

@misspurple: No, she was at work. I actually received the dress, tried it on for 20 seconds and then had to run out the door to meet my mom (who was visiting from California). She and I were supposed to meet with florists that afternoon, but I stuck around home to receive the dress. Since then there has been no prancing for fear of exciting the dogs and having them jump on my dress!!!

Myisha says:

The dress is very pretty. I am not very good with surprises either…

I just wanted to add that I got all of my bridesmaid dresses from netbride, and they are awesome! I ordered them in Feb. and they were garanteed to be here the first week of May (my wedding is June 14th). They came the first week of march. I was so excited to have them so quickly. It is an awesome site! The same dresses were 80 dollars more at the boutique, and they said that it was too late to order them in Feb (they might not come in on time). Netbride promised to have them here on time and they did. I highly recommend them!
