About Mrs. Hummingbird

W.F.W.

April 21st, 2008 @ 4:30 pm by Mrs. Hummingbird

We have 68 days left to go until we get married, so most days, downtime is in short supply as I am running around trying to get at least one wedding related thing down.

However, this weekend, after months of wedding mania and general craziness (I seriously woke up at 1 AM on Thursday night looking for our catering contract), Mr. Hum encouraged me to take a break and let him handle some of the hullabaloo. So, starting Saturday morning, I handed over the reigns and took a W.F.W. - Wedding Free Weekend. Instead of organizing out the seating plan or trying to plot out our wedding day schedule, I just put all that stuff aside and acted like a normal person.

My MOH and FSIL Erin and I went to a spa for a massage and pedicure. I went shopping at Walmart for a kicky pair of flip flops. I watched the Serra and St. Pierre UFC fight with my FBIL and Mr. Hum’s BM Nick. I had several conversations that didn’t involve “Wedding Talk.” And you know what? Not having the wedding be the focus of my universe for a moment was actually as awesome as I had remembered it.

As much as I am looking forward to our big day, I have to admit, I am actually looking forward to the time when it’s over and I can resume my regularly scheduled life when I can just spend time with Mr. Hum wedding-free, focus on my hobbies and my goals, and use my disposable income for more than just wedding stuff. silly03

I still have a bunch of wedding planning to go, but I’ve already started to make plans for my post-wedding life and I’ve got to say, it’s really exciting me.

How about it ladies? Do any of you have exciting post-wedding plans? Tell me about them!

I’m so with you on being excited to resume normal life! No special post-wedding plans except our usual plans for Chicago summer fun - mostly revolving around baseball and live music - and we’re probably hopping in an RV with friends to go up to the Rothbury festival in Michigan for July 4th weekend so I’m super psyched about that! I’m also laughing at you (in an affectionate way of course) because you’re already worrying about your seating plan and wedding day schedule with over two months to go - we’re getting married on Saturday, just did the seating plan this weekend, and I have yet to finalize our wedding day schedule! :) So know that even if you don’t get it done this week, it will be okay.

Buy new clothes that have nothing to do with the wedding! And many other things that I haven’t been able to buy/do with my money since the wedding took hold of my finances.

We didn’t have enough money to leave for our honeymoon right away, so after having spent about 2 weeks after our wedding with family who had been in town, I planned a mini moon for husband and I just to get away. It was something we both needed to unwind from the pre wedding stress and the post wedding hosting. It was one of the best things I did for us as a newlywed. Sometimes you just need to get away…whether it be to a bed and breakfast, or an all inclusive resort somewhere close…spending time with just the other person is so important. So that would be my advice to you! Best of luck!

I look forward to not being broke. Everyday it seems like I have to buy something else for the wedding.

I’m planning to paint our appartment this summer after the wedding, and do some gardening. So everytime I start stressing, or being overwhelmed I just start thinking about wall colours or flowers to plant or camping with our friends once we’re “legal.”

You’ll be ok. :)

I feel the same sometimes. As much as I love the whole thing, planning every little detail, I am looking forward to getting back to normal life :)
