Go Theme!

April 22nd, 2008 @ 3:10 pm by Mrs. Petunia

I’m not sure we were entirely successful pulling off our Monopoly theme…when I think of the elements now they seem to yes, come together in some way, though perhaps not as boldly as they could have. That is the balance anyone trying to work in a theme struggles with I suppose: making it cohesive while not overpowering. We tried to make the best of it though, and here’s how we made “it” happen. For one, with little houses, dutifully spray painted pink & green, resting atop our escort cards, with calligraphy by the amazing Betsy Dunlap:

And a special one for the bride & groom, with the single pewter game token holder we could find. The tables, too, were named after Monopoly properties. Ours was the best seat in the house, Boardwalk:

A custom-stamped envelope awaited each guest, accompanied by an actual Monopoly token to be used for scratching the content — a lottery ticket:

Sadly, no one left a millionaire, but a handful did leave $3 to $10 richer:

I bet this napkin design from My Jean M is more often than not used for Vegas-themed weddings, but dice work nice with a board game, too:

Finally, we have our custom cake topper, which we opted not to use on the cake in the end, guarding our decoupaged gift card box instead:

The only Monopoly detail left to share, sort of, is our candy table of Boardwalk sweets. That post coming next!

I think everything came together nicely! Why didn’t you use the cake topper?

I think you had the perfect amount of “theme”. Too much can be overdone. I also love that you spray painted the Monopoly houses to match your color scheme. I can see myself doing the same thing! Maybe I missed this, but I was wondering; how did you choose Monopoly as your theme?

The gift card box is so cute, and so cheap (although it looks like a million dollars!) A million monopoly dollars that is.

The pink and green houses and the Chance cards are my favorite touch…but I’ll with-hold final judgement until I see the candy table!

I love the Chance cards– such a perfect touch! And Betsy Dunlap’s amazing calligraphy is really the icing on the cake.

I thought you did the perfect amount of theme, too. We also love board games but I couldn’t think of a way to incorporate them.

I love monopoly. Your theme came out great. Too bad I didn’t think about doing something like this. The place I got married had packages and I was just so excited that I did not give it a second thought… Can I go back and do it again? Congrats.
