If I Had A Million Dollars

April 22nd, 2008 @ 9:25 am by Mrs. Tiramisu

There are lots of things I could definitely splurge on if I had the resources- extravagant ceiling-high floral arrangements? a fancy martini bar with unlimited choices? Manolos or Brian Atwood heels? Yes, yes, and yes, please. One of the most fun for me to dream about is elaborate out-of-town bags for our guests. A quick glance at the (ever-growing) guest list shows that 90 of our 128 invited parties hail from outside the great state of Maine, so this will certainly remain but a dream. If I could though, I would love to shower them all with baskets full of gourmet Maine goodies and fun trinkets to remind them of their time in Vacationland.

To start, I’d get each guest one of L.L. Bean’s new Tidepool Boat and Tote bags:

Then I’d add one of Stonewall Kitchen’s gift sets… I love their Wild Maine Blueberry Jam:

I’d throw in a yummy scented travel candle, like this one by Tocca in “Tahiti” in honor of our honeymoon:

We’d have to have a little chocolate… I love these from Wilbur’s of Maine:

And with chocolate, you must have wine… Blacksmith’s is a fabulous local winery, and they have Blueberry Wine!

I’d finish it off with a custom-made map of the weekend’s festivities from Laura Hooper, like this one:
It’s so fun to dream! How would you welcome your guests if money were no object?

$$ or no $$, all of your ideas are impeccable. I LOVE all the fun goodies above, but what we all love more is being there to support our dearest friends on their exciting day!

Mmm…I love all the blueberry items you featured! That would be such a lovely gift basket. We have a ton of out of town guests too, so I have to forgo the baskets or I would completely blow our budget.

Your ideas are great! I was having the same problem coming up with relatively inexpensive gift baskets for our out of town guests also. Our wedding is in Austin, TX but most of the guests will be from out of town. I’m using http://www.swellsweets.com. They’ve come up with a really cute gift box with goodies from the area and include maps and things to do in the city. The price is really reasonable also!

Ms. Tiramisu- I love reading all of your posts, but as a fellow ‘maine-ah’ i especially love ones like this :) both my parents are employed by LLBean so our house is full of their stuff, as well as Stonewall kitchen and Wilbur’s goodies! Another suggestion to go along with your theme is Chocolate covered blueberries… they’re amazing and I’m sure your guests would love them!

I know the whole point of this is that you can’t afford them, but could you not DIY a mini-version for a lot less? e.g. bake cookies, draw your own map?

There’s a similar font to Stonewall Kitchen available here for $30…

I would buy all of my guests a city pass. And I would make sure to get one for myself so that we could explore the entire city together!

Thanks for all your wonderful ideas - that wine is delicious and I could never remember who made it. I follow your posts because I’m also planning a similar Maine wedding (former Mainer, now living in VA). Lots of family coming, but even more out of towners. So keep the great stories and ideas coming! Especially because I would love to borrow some of those great items for our bags - and thank you!

[…] on though, I realized that part of me does wish we were doing more for out of town baskets. I had big dreams (I never actually considered spending that much, don’t worry!), and saw some drool-worthy […]
