It’s All Coming Up Roses

April 22nd, 2008 @ 8:31 am by Mrs. Jasmine

After obtaining our marriage license (and stopping off for some fun shopping at the Beverly Center), Mr. Jasmine and I went to Commerce Flowers for our centerpiece mockup. I first heard about Commerce Flowers online– they have fabulous reviews on the Knot and Project Wedding. When my wonderful coordinator Angel Swanson told me she loved their work too, I was sold.

Eddie, the floral designer we’re working with at Commerce Flowers, has to be one of our nicest vendors. He has such a chilled-out attitude that you can’t help but feel relaxed and happy when you’re working with him. We spent an afternoon in his wonderful shop, ogling our centerpiece and the other amazing creations he was preparing for a wedding that weekend.

Our wedding colors are deep burgundy and shades of dark pink like magenta and fuschia. It’s sort of an unusual color combination and I wasn’t sure how to properly express it in a floral palette that was rich, luxurious, and feminine. And it didn’t help that I know absolutely nothing about flowers. But here is the stunning centerpiece that Eddie created for us:

I could not be happier– it is elegant, rich, and perfectly evokes the exotic feel of our event. I especially love the dahlias and gloriosa lilies intermixed with the roses and hydrangea– I think they really add some lovely texture and nuance. And the best part is that Eddie was easily able to work with our budget.

Just for fun, here are photos of some other beautiful designs Eddie was working on while we were there. Isn’t this centerpiece amazing? I imagine this being perfect for a Midsummer’s Night Dream affair.

And how stunning is this lush pink carnation bed?

I would love to have one to display our place cards, but I’m trying to be good and stay under budget.Next up: our tasting at the InterContinental!

I too am a big fan of City of Commerce Flowers. I’ve been to a couple of weddings which features their flower arrangements. There is only one word that can accurately describe the flowers…..beautiful!

Just out of curiosity, do you know how much those beds of carnations run? I wonder because its such an affordable flower, but there are so many so tightly packed!

@alexinwonderland:
We were quoted about $300, mostly because those beds are so labor-intensive to make.

Hey Miss Jasmine,

I love the flowers…I have keenly been following your post, as I am (gulp!) less than 30 days away from my own South Asian wedding. Out of curiousity, what was your floral budget if you don’t mind me asking? I have seen so many different numbers floating out there for an average, but I don’t want cheap looking florals, and with an Indian wedding, costs add up quickly.
