Strike Two

April 22nd, 2008 @ 5:46 pm by Mrs. Sundae

As I mentioned on Friday, I had another makeup trial this weekend. This time was almost the exact opposite of my first experience - I walked out and Mr. Sundae said, “Did you not have the trial?” There was barely anything on my face…no foundation, no blush, no bronzer, just a little eyeshadow, some mascara, and some pink lip gloss. Basically, how I look nearly every day when I leave for work.

I asked about the foundation, and she thought that because my skin was clear I didn’t need anything. Sort of makes sense but at least some powder, no? I know, I know, I should have been pushier but halfway through I realized there was just no point. I wasn’t going to be using her so I just politely paid and made my exit. I didn’t even take pictures because, well, there wasn’t much to capture on film ;)

But I have not given up hope! I contacted Beauty on Call, which is based in Chicago but they will travel to Wisconsin for a small fee. A friend of mine is getting married in May and using them for her makeup, so hopefully this will be my final trial. They’re definitely a little more than I wanted to spend, but at this point I am running out of options! I contacted them yesterday and it takes 2-3 weeks to match you with a stylist, so I should know something soon.

The good news is that the meeting with the coordinators at The Abbey went really well, as did the table mock-ups! Now I just need to get my lazy bee butt in gear and get the pictures off my camera ;)

Have you tried the Mac counter? Majority of their MUA’s are pretty skilled.

I had an awful experience at a very nice place. I’m going to have some Aveda people make me up, buy the products, and have my friends and myself do my makeup. No more professional makeup artists! Ugh.

Stacie, I haven’t tried the MAC counter but that’s a good idea. And Maude - if this trial doesn’t work out I might be doing the exact same thing!

I used to be a make-up artist for Chanel and I am a photographer. You need to wear foundation. It will even out your skin tone and make you look flawless in photos. Keep trying. The cool thing about most counters is that you can have them do your make-up and get a face chart. Then practice at home. Do it yourself on your wedding day. Remember you need to wear a bit more than you usually do for the photos.

Don’t wear anything to sparkly. You can wear a shimmer, but not a glitter. It doesn’t photograph well.

Good luck!!

Have you tried Sonia Roselli? She’s a wedding makeup artist in Chicago, but she may travel to Wisconsin? She’s supposedly excellent and has great reviews. You may want to check her out!
