About Mrs. Toucan

When Mr. Toucan and I first got engaged, our wedding was more than a year away. When people asked, we’d always tell them our wedding was next year. That year away quickly turned into XX months away.

This weekend, I went home to visit my parents. My mom was writing on the family’s dry-erase 2-month calendar and exclaimed, “Your wedding has finally made the calendar!” It was then that I realized our countdown has officially switched from MONTHS to WEEKS! Counting by weeks makes it feel SO much closer than counting by months to me, and I’m realizing that our wedding is really close and just around the corner (enter super excitement and slight panic)!

At what point did your wedding start to feel really close?

I just had my first shower last weekend (about 7 weeks from the wedding). That made it feel VERY close. And there’s still so much to do!

Um, yesterday I bought a carton of cream at the grocery store with an expiration date after my wedding date. That pretty much did it.

I think it was at the 2 month mark, because that was when we actually started counting it out in weeks - and I realized I had a GANG of stuff to do w/in that 8 week period!

We’ve also had a long engagement (18 months), and now that we’re nearing our end-of-June wedding date, it certainly seems much closer than it did in early 2007. But I still haven’t had that “ohmygosh, it’s so close!” moment. Maybe after invites go out and we start getting RSVPs?

Ours is next Saturday and it still feels far far away. Mainly because we’ve been busy and out of town every weekend this month for other weddings :)

Well, I’m starting to get that now, and my wedding’s still only 13 months away! But so far I’ve been telling myself that I’m just doing research, don’t actually have to decide on anything … but once we get within a year I’m not sure I can do that - I may freak out!

nerdherd - you made me laugh with your cream comment :)

It’s a toss-up between my shower and getting the marriage license! You and I have the same wedding date so I totally feel your excitement– I can’t believe it’s finally so close!

I’m sure there will be ever-increasing moments of closeness, but my first was just last week when I realized we were 5 months away! I’d not started counting months yet, so it was really odd to realize how very soon that sounded (at least from a planning perspective).

Deep breaths…

@nerdherd: haha! You make me want ice cream now…
@missalice: OMG! Early congrats!
@Miss Jasmine: Isn’t it crazy?! People ask me when the wedding is and what I have left to do, and I don’t get the “You have time response anymore!” It is SO exciting though!

I hear you! For some reason when we hit the 100 day mark I still felt ok… but later that week when I looked at the countdown again and saw it at BELOW 100, I started to freak out. My one friend likes to refer to it as “half a month” instead of 2 weeks, just to calm herself down :)

We’re at 7 weeks and it’s REALLY starting to sink in. RSVPs are flooding in, we’re finalizing details, etc.

I just got an email from the knot: Six weeks to go! I fell off my chair and immediately started calling hair and makeup stylists.

haha um, I think it was when I hit 28 days. I had nothing to compare the time to other than a menstrual cycle. teehee

Now I’m down to 18 days… by the end of this week it’ll be 2 weeks and we’re getting our license, I have a feeling that will make it seem a LOT more real. :)

When we got under two months, showers started happening, invitations went out — and it started to feel really close to me — and then the final six weeks FLEW by!
