Another Item Off The List

April 23rd, 2008 @ 2:47 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

I previously wrote about the rehearsal dinner invitations that I made for our wedding. I was only able to post the proofs that I received from Vista Print and was a little hesitant about how the printing would turn out because the proof seemed a little pixelated.

Once I received them, I was pleasantly surprised with the end result. The black is a little more faded then I would have liked, but considering the price and turnaround time, it was worth it. All in all, it was a simple process and there’s something very satisfying about creating your own invitations.

The great thing about Vista Print is that they are constantly sending you coupons for discounted rated on various items. I decided that I wanted to create menus for the tables that would match the invitations, so after a couple of hours on Adobe Illustrator, I finally came up with a two-sided menu and had them printed at Vista Print as well.

This time around I noticed that they offered a linen type paper and decided to pay the few extra dollars for this feature, as it would probably look a little nicer, and it did!

I opted for Vista Print in the end because it seemed like a simple process for a relatively cheap price. I used them this week to create some simple thank-you notes for gifts that we receive before the wedding as well.

What have you all done for your printing methods? I still have some projects ahead of me and would love the tips and advice!

On a side note: I also ordered some matching stamps from Picture It Postage when I ordered the ones for our save the dates, only I apparently was not thinking straight as the postage changes come May. So, our bills have had some fancy stamps on them this month! I guess that’s what happens when you get a little too excited and overzealous!

OMG I LOVE them! They look great - and the combo of the faded looking black with the linen makes them look vintage and classy. Very elegant!

Love them!!

Can I ask where you found the chandelier picture? I have been looking for a while, but haven’t found something that seems quite right.

They look great. What is Vista Prints’ turn around time? Approx? I’m thinking of using them to print my invitations.

@eveline: The turnaround all depends on how much you want to spend. I usually picked the slowest option since our event is so far away and it always came about 2 weeks earlier then I expected. I think it’s just to give them some cushion time incase they are busy.

@MrsJones: Miss Flamingo actually created the image for me from a photo I found online using the Live Trace tool in Illustrator (I believe that’s the correct terminology, but not 100% positive).

I just checked out the site, seems to have some really good deals.

Where did you print your programs at?

Thank you, I will see if I can get my tech-savy FI to create something for us in illustrator.

They look gorgeous, Ms. Hydrangea!

You mentioned that the black looked faded to you. If you have other projects and you’d like the black (text, or any solid area) to be BLACK black, make sure you set the colors to a “rich black” as in, 60% Cyan, 50% Magenta, 50% Yellow, and 100% Black, easy to do within the color palette of any Adobe program. The layering of all colors will ensure a dense black.

Just a tip! HTH!

Thank you so much for posting this! I had no idea how I was going to justify the costs of invites down the road, but I forgot all about Vista Print. With all of the amazing deals (I found a 50% off all invites coupon), it’s a no-brainer. Glad to know the quality is good.

Hello Ms H,

This message is coming from a graphic designer groom-to-be (on my fiancée’s weddingbee login). I’ve designed our save the dates and we’re looking into printing options like vistaprint, but I feel like the quality cant be very good at such a bargain. The pictures of your printed items look really nice! Can you tell me if your job was just one color? I have a similar design to your invitations, with a flood background and reversed type, but its a 4 color, 2 sided job. Do you know if they did the job digitally or offset?

@Sherry: I used Charlemagne Script and Optimus Princeps Serif…both can be found at dafont.com!

@Johanna: I really wish I could help you with your question, but everything I worked on has been black and white so I’m not sure about their color process. The best thing to do would be to call their 800 number because I don’t want to give you the wrong information :)

Wow, that looks great! I was looking at Vistaprint for invites but I wasn’t sure at the sizes, since I ultimately want to do a pocketfolder - what type/size of product did you use for the two items? Are they actual invites? I thought all of theirs were folded. Sorry if these are sily questions. :)

I love your font as well! However, I can’t find them on dafont.com. Do you remember which category it’s in? Thanks.

hi miss hydrangea, the chandelier motif is perfect! Where did you find that photo if you don’t mind me asking?

missy8 says:

on your very first pic, is that an envelope you printed your chandelier on, it’s gorgeous, the placement and all! It looks brown from the pic, is that the true ink color?

Miss Hydrangea says:

@missy8: Actually, my pictures are horrible, everything is black and white and gray. The chandelier was actually a picture that one of the other bees with more graphic experience then me turned into a vector image.
