Gocco On Oversized Paper

April 23rd, 2008 @ 8:30 am by Mrs. Tiramisu

My invitations are almost done! I did all of the inserts first, leaving the invitation itself to gocco last. I did all of my inserts (Reception card, RSVP card, and website info card) on 4-bar sized paper, which is small enough to fit on my PG-5 Gocco print pad, making registration very simple. For all of the inserts, I simply lined the corner of the card up with the corner of the print pad, and everything came out perfectly centered.

The invite itself, however, was on A6 sized paper (4.5 x 6.25). I definitely wish that I had the PG-11 with the built-in registration guides when it comes to stuff like this, but it was twice the price of my machine! Here’s my very simple method for making your own registration guide for slightly oversized paper.

Step one:
From the paper you want to print on, trace and cut out a rectangle in the size of the print pad (4.5 by 6.25). Make sure it’s perfectly centered (if you want your printed image to be centered).

Step two:
Fit the frame that you just cut out onto the print pad:

The cardboard taped to the Gocco is left from a previous (much less successful) attempt at a DIY registration guide.

Step three:
Use the newly enlarged print pad to line up your paper:

Step four:
Gocco away and then admire your perfectly centered image!

Ok, so this isn’t exactly rocket science, but for some reason it took me a really long time to come up with this simple solution. Hopefully it helps somebody out there :)

That’s pretty good that you are able to fit all that in one master screen print. I normally have to split two screen prints when doing it on a 7 x 5 card, which I find it easier to do. For my registration I use a piece of card board and use a pencil to put my crop marks on it. I did a frame once for my registration however it doesn’t help and it never align exactly where I want my stuff to get printed.

I’ve been playing around with a registration guide for days, so I’m really glad you shared this! It seems a lot simpler than the complex scheme I worked out.
