Music Options In Cancun, Mexico

April 23rd, 2008 @ 3:40 pm by Mrs. Lovebird

When I thought only a few people would come to our destination wedding, I was fine with the idea of having an ipod wedding and dancing barefoot on the beach.  When the numbers started climbing towards 90 and beyond, we threw that idea out the window.

We could have gone the easy route and just went with the DJ our venue uses, but then again, it is important to explore your options.  Lucky for us, our wedding coordinator at Dreams Cancun was fine with the idea of us exploring outside vendors in this regard and recommended PSAV.

They had three different packages to choose from and their rates were a little better than if I went directly with my venue. The person I corresponded, Lola, with was also very responsive and usually got back to me within a day or two.  Here is their contact info: alvarezd@presentationservices.com.mx; Directo: 011 52 998 8832864

But after reading Sol Tamargo’s blog about her own wedding to Matt Adcock, I had to look into her band Balance!

Everyone seemed to be having such a great time at her wedding, and I’m sure Sol knows her stuff considering all the weddings she shoots in the area. Check out Balance’ website - it has videos of them in action and they are amazing! The person I corresponded with, Margarita, was also a sweetheart. Unfortunately, though their prices were reasonable, it was a little over our budget and Mr. Lovebird preferred the idea of a DJ.

Then someone from the Best Destination Wedding Forum suggested Mannia Cancun. The person I corresponded with, Carlos, is an absolute sweetheart! Planning a destination wedding is hard enough and he makes it so easy. Since I don’t have the luxury of being able to constantly call our vendors (unless I want to rack up crazy phone bills), it’s a true blessing that Carlos always gets back within hours (sometimes minutes) of me sending my email. Their rates were also the most competitive of those I’ve researched, so it was a no brainer to book with them. And the best part, they offer an illuminated dance floor! I didn’t even know these things existed. When I saw it, I knew we had to have it!

How long did it take you to finally decide on your dj or band? How many options did you consider?

My favorite 80s bar has the light up floor, and it is so much fun! Your guests won’t be able to resist dancing on it.

I wanted a DJ, my FI wanted a band…this battle droned on for months. We’re planning from a distance, so we were only able to meet one band in person. They were fantastic and we booked them immediately. I can’t wait!

Wow - I don’t know how you destination brides do it!

We found our band by happen-stance. We were planning on using the iPod… but then we saw this band playing at a party. We looked at each other and said “we have to have them at our wedding.”

I think a gut feeling (and light up floor) is the best way to go. Sounds like you made a good pick!

Miss Lovebird you’ll have to excuse me (I’m WAY behind on posts) but…did you hire Sol to photograph your wedding? That’s so exciting! I’m going back and forth on hiring them. I of course want to but FH thinks it’s way too much money.

@AmandaRyan: I’m actually using their associate Vincent since Sol and Matt have a personal engagement that day; but they’ll still be editing my pics! I’m so excited!

This is definitely an important decision you and your FH need to make together since they don’t come cheap; although I think their rates are pretty reasonable considering their amazing work. The both of you need to decide how high photography is on your list of priorities and where it fits in your budget.

Are you getting married along the Mayan Riviera? Have you already picked a date and venue? If you haven’t already, you should start contacting the ones you are interested in to see if they are even available that day. Also, be sure to check your venue’s outside vendors policy.

I’m also looking for a band that is reasonable and plays a mix of current, I guess pop songs, as well as some latin songs. I’m getting married June 2009. What specific bands did you choose? Do you happen to have their website and a rough estimate of cost? Did you have them play all night?

Thanks so much for any help you can give me!

Did you know about Doremixx?

They told me that they have a better dance floor?

How can I contact them?

@Mike: No, I didn’t know about them, but Carlos from Mannia was my favorite vendor, bar none, so I’m so happy I went with him.

You can try googling the people you mentioned or ask whoever told you about them. Good luck.
