About Mrs. Cherry Blossom

Channeling My Best Pootiekins

April 24th, 2008 @ 4:29 pm by Mrs. Cherry Blossom

When I saw Pootiekins’ bios that were featured on weddingbee, I fell phat in love with her. Hers was by far one of my most favorite weddings. I’m thinking, girl we gots mucho in common yo.

She was super kind enough to share some of her secrets via the comments from the post, and I actually contacted her directly for a few more secrets from her wedding aka my best at channeling her is here ….

Check it… her super simple, adorable flower girl basket and floral monogram. Man we rocking the same colors!

I picked up the basket from Cost Plus for $3.99. Which you can get for 25% with this coupon.

A fellow xangan had posted a sale at Bombay a while back, so I went and picked up 3 jeweled letters which I thought might be small enough to use on a bouquet but I was wrong. It’s okay because I found better use of it.

z14244202

Here’s our flower girl basket with Mr. CB’s last name initial. The other two first name initials “J” will be tied to the back of our chairs at the reception with a pink ribbon for moi and brown ribbon for him.

On to the floral monograms. What I love most, and Pootiekins also pointed out, are the color variations in the hydrangeas she used.  I picked some up from Michael’s (totally lucked out when they had a 50% off sale on silk flowers) and it really gives it a “real” look to it. Many a friends saw the pics and asked why I had made it so early because they thought I used fresh flowers.

Letters were purchased from Craft Cuts based on Pootiekins referrals: Font - Times New Roman, Height - 16 inch, and Thickness - 1/4″. Grab yourself some scissors to cut off the heads, a hot glue gun, and start burning yourself like mad.

z14244203

TIP: squeeze the flower head in your fingers, apply glue to the bottom of the stem, place on the wood and push down for a few seconds.

z14244204

From Pootiekins: She told me to bunch them up closely together to give it a full lush effect, not too close though bc then it’d look a little funky like a corner of my first monogram. You’ll get the hang of it as you go along.

z14244205

And presto! I’m going to maximize usage and use them for the ceremony, reception, and for the second banquet. After all those burns, I want to get the most out of it.

z14244206

What do you think? With a bow at the top? Or without?

Absolutely gorgeous. You must have had some sticky fingers! I like it without b/c it will give them a cleaner look.

Very nice! How long did it take you to finish both letters?
I like it without the bow too.

They look wonderful! Now I know where to get the cut-out letters for my own! Not a bad price, either. :) I like them better without the bow. Great job!

I’ve also used Craft Cuts before too! I used them when one of my friends wanted me to do letters for her daughters room!

Question…did you do that backs too?

@nancEE: I did it two separate times and I was doing other things at the same time. I’d say if you sat there for 2 hours straight, you’d get it done.

@karieck05: Backs as in cover it with flowers in the back? No. But I did use a staple gun to secure the ribbon to the monogram.

@Tea: I bought 8 stems total. I used pretty much all of it, I have just a small ziplog bag left of the scraps.

I’m sorry, would you let me where bombay is? can i find it in the bay area? I tried to search for it on the web but all I found were India-related listings.

@birdie: No worries. I tried to find the link for it direct but I don’t think they have it any more. I got them when they were on sale right around holiday season. They used to sell things online but not any more. check out http://www.bombaycompany.com. good luck!

Can I just tell you that I saw the image of her monograms and went anxiously searching through her page to find the directions and came up empty… then came back and read the rest of your blog and saw you had it right here. Haha. I need patience I guess. Thanks so much, I can’t wait to try myself!!

OMG, I totally saved the picture of Pootiekins’s initial letters from her bio and ever since then, I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure out how I can make them too. And then I come here today and you have shared your secrets. THANK YOU! You are so awesome. Your letters turned out beautifully. I’m sure they’ll look fabulous displayed at your wedding. :)

Forgot to ask — how did you adhere the ribbon onto the letters? (Not the bow but the hanging loop part). Thanks in advance!

@Kel: Aw thanks Kel for the kind words. I have to thank pootiekins for sharing her secrets with me first, so I can’t take credit for anything.

I secured the loop to the back of the monogram with a staple gun. =0)

this is great! i have been trying to decide if silk flowers would work… obviously they look fantastic! thanks for sharing.

i think i like it without the bow but maybe if the bow were a little bigger and drooped more it would work?
