Looks like somebody hasn’t been doing his crunches. Or anything, at all!

Does anybody have any motivational tips - besides posting a picture of Orazio up there on my fridge? :D

I don’t have any tips, but just wanted to say that I think that is the fattest, and thus most insanely amazingly great, cat I have ever seen in my life! What is better in the world than a fat cat?!?!

Natalie says:

start tracking your food (everything you put in your mouth) and exercise on sparkpeople or some other tracking system (even just a spreadsheet you make). It will make you more conscious of your choices. But hey.. you look good already!

Personally, I like to put the really unflattering pictures of myself up on the fridge.

I have to say - how horrifying is that cat picture?? It makes me crazy that some people would do that to their pets! The chronic health problems … yoi.

SBH says:

Wow. I thought my cat was fat (we call her piggy). She only weighs 12lbs. I can’t imagine how much the cat in the picture weighs!!

In response to your question - get to about 3 months away from your wedding date. I started shedding pounds about 1.5 months ago just from pure stress!!

I decided to do the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in July in San Francisco. It’s a 2-day, 40-mile walk, and not only is it for a great cause, I’ll stay fit because I sure don’t want to try to walk 40 miles without training!!! I find it’s always easier to stay motivated when there’s more to it than wanting to look good. Whether it’s training for a charity walk, triathlon, etc, or just joining a local intramural sports team - it sure beats pounding it out on the boring treadmill….

Personally, I’m in the same boat, and I have bridal portraits in 2 weeks…eek! As for advice, I agree with Natalie, tracking your food really helps and I use sparkpeople as well to keep myself on track!

I think having a picture around is a great way to motivate yourself…but I would put a really great picture of myself to remind me of what is possible when I make good choices about exercise/food/etc.

I would put pictures in your car, next to your desk, and on the fridge to remind yourself to make healthy food choices and to get yourself to the gym.

@Jenny — I did the Avon Walk in San Francisco last year and had a BLAST (and lost about 10 pounds in the process). You will have a fabulous time. I’m hoping to do it again, maybe next year.

Erin says:

Getting my fiance involved really helped, because I don’t feel like I’m being selfish when I spend time at the gym (because he’s taking the time out, too).

Also, we’ve found that we make a good team because we have different approaches: I will go to the gym frequently, but feel satisfied after only 20-30 minutes. He pushes himself for 90 minutes, but then stalls on going back. Together, we have been getting in about 3 days of 60 minutes work outs each week. We’ve both lost our target weight (10lbs for me, 20 for him) and have kept it off.

I also weigh myself once a week. Keeps me honest. Plus, it’s easier to take care of 1 extra lb than it is to try to loose 10. But I’ve found daily weigh-ins fluctuate too much to be useful measures.

man…i wish i had some advice.

I’m days away from the official 6 month mark and there is no more time for the sporadic workouts that i’ve been doing. i really, really need to get very serious about my fitness regiment. i soooo need it.

it does not help that my dress is a lace back style….which lulls me into this false sense of security that “all will be well”. ugh……

get a fitness partner! i wish i had one.

Cultivate a support system and use it! I check in with a co-worker who is also getting fit. Knowing I’ll need to report back keeps me a bit more motivated to keep it up, though I’ve found that once I have established a workout pattern, I tend to stick with it more especially if the activities are varied. I bike to/from work, do yoga, cardio and weight training, which keeps it interesting and has the side effect of helping with all the stress!.

The only thing I would add would be to track not only weight, but measurements. For several weeks, my weight didn’t change, but my measurements did - knowing that progress was being made, at least on one of the fronts kept me motivated. Had I just been tracking weight, it would have been rather discouraging.

Best of luck!

I LOVE FAT CATS!!! They are sooo cuddly! even though it’s sooo unhealthy for them.. i’m currently tracking what i eat and staying below my daily calorie intake.. on top of some exercise 3 times a week.. hope it works!!

indecisivebride says:

I had another thought: every few weeks I try on this one dress that I love and that I bought when I was in shape. I feel great when the dress fits well and if it’s starting to show some problem areas it motivates me to step up my workouts.

I agree with missm - measurements matter more than the number on the scale

have you ever heard of these fat replicas? So totally weird, but people use them as motivation. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41tauxGgYLL._SS500_.jpg

Michelle says:

pictures on the fridge - of you when you looked GREAT (doesnt matter if you have to photoshop). DO NOT put bad pictures of you, it actually hurts your self esteem and believe it or not, will have a negative affect on your weight (as in POSITIVE addition in pounds!). Anyone who remembers their Psych 101 class can confirm that positive reinforcement is the way to go.

If I were you (and I being me, am doing this myself), get someone who will hold you accountable for whether or not you did what you were supposed to whether its eating healthier or working out. It needs to be someone whos opinion you respect and that you trust. They need to be able to give you crap for your slacking off without ticking you off.

My says:

That is the fattest cat that I have ever seen in my entire life….

Kat says:

I agree that tracking helps, a blog where you keep track of a food and exercise diary and your feelings about it is fun too, and you can keep it private if you want too.

Beans says:

That is not only the heaviest cat I’ve ever seen…it’s bigger than my dog who weighs in at 25lbs…length wise even …wow.
