Save The Date - It’s For Real!

April 24th, 2008 @ 12:20 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

Mr. Pineapple and I finally put together our save the dates, using our engagement photos. I wanted to get them out a little sooner since most of the guests will be out-of-towners, but I think 6 months before is definitely still reasonable.

Lesson learned:
I made way too many of everything. I have a bunch of extra monogram magnets. After sealing all the envelopes I wish I would have put two magnets in each one. The cards are bigger than I originally envisioned and the magnets barely hold them onto the fridge. I am also worried that people will not realize there is a magnet in the envelope and they will get thrown out. An alternative would be to make stronger magnets, but it was too late for that one.

Here is the whole kit n’ kaboodle:
The front:The Back: Originally I didn’t want to put the words “save the date” anywhere on the card. I thought that “formal invitation to follow” would be enough and it was kind of redundant (and repetitious). However, even with it written on there, we have already had a couple people attempt to RSVP thinking it was the final invite. Here is a shot of how it (barely) works with the magnet. Hopefully, my friends and family don’t slam refrigerator doors:

Organized chaos. I had a flashback to middle and high school when I did all of my homework and artwork on my bed or floor. Back then I didn’t have cats trying to eat all of the pieces of paper from the back of the labels, nom nom nom nom.
Mr. Pineapple’s task was to seal the envelopes and add the return address labels. We ended up going with the “Tiffany” stamps at the post office. The cream background was a perfect match and they are not as cheesy as the “wedding hearts.” I love custom stamps (in fact we got a sheet of them from a friend as a gift), but they end up costing about twice as much.

Here are the return address labels:
Now I could have just purchased sheets of pre-perforated Avery labels, but no, I wanted them to be a certain size. So, again with the double-sided adhesive. I was also able to find another use for the pattern that will be appearing on our invites which is nice.

I printed out sheets of the labels on a desktop printer, applied the adhesive and trimmed them out. Here is the final product:
What should I do with all those extra magnets?

Love the wording! I heart fridge magnets, so I would just slap them all on the fridge and make a huge smiley face or sumthing :). Or, you could sneakily slap them on other people’s fridges when you visit them. Just a thought.

Give the extra magnets to your bridesmaids to include with the shower invites. It can go up on the fridge right next to the save the date! :)

you could use a magnetic guest board at the wedding — instead of a guest book or to display pictures of you near the guest book…

i was about to post an idea about a magnetic board at the wedding, too. you could do a “fridge-like” collage of photos (engagement, family wedding pics, etc) on display using the magnets. i think this would be a super cute alternative to an easel or framed photos.

oh, and i have a question about the magnets: i see you have his initial first, not yours. (and i agree RE looks better than ER) i have been toying with a monogram problem, because our initials with last name initial are “LSD” if you put my name first… and though, “DSL” isn’t much better, i like seeing someone else who has gone against the “bride’s name must come first” rule.

I love them too! You did a fantastic job!
And all these suggestions on what to do with the extra magnets are great… I especially liked the idea of the collage @ your reception & the idea of leaving them on other ppls frigs when you came to visit.
You should definitely incorporated them in to your reception :)

You all are so creative! I absolutely love the idea of a magnetic board with photos on it. I will make this happen. Maybe it is even another way to bring in some copper. You girls got my mind running. I also think the gorilla art project of putting them up in people’s homes is so funny.
@melodicsighs1: I didn’t give much thought to who came first, it was just my favorite of the monograms I had worked up. Sometimes I completely forget there are “rules” about such things.

Miss Pineapple, these are so fabulous!

Did you print the save the date part yourself or did you have them printed professionally?

@lc2be: Thanks! They were printed at home on 80# card stock. The printing isn’t perfect, but totally worth it to do it myself.

I wanted to create return address labels like that - how did you do it? Can you say more about the adhesive product?

I have my mind set on the Tiffany stamps, too. The literally look designed to match our invitations. I’m determined to get the invites out before the postage price change!

These are adorable and original! You might put the magnets as extras in the OOT bags? I also like the collage and shower ideas! So many creative bees!

@Miss Pineapple:
I use dry mount adhesive sheets like these ones: http://www.dickblick.com/zz249/05/

They are super easy and clean. They look like two sided stickers with peel away backing on each side. just peel off one side, stick your print down, trim them out and peel of the second side when you are ready to stick them down.

These ideas almost make me want to make more magnets haha

LOVE your save the dates. So cute!
My date is 10/17/08 and we’re also using that same persimmon (that’s what our theme is) color. But I’m having a surprisingly hard time finding the exact shade.
where did you get your paper and are u looking at invites too?

They came out great!
Just some advice though — even though you may have had WAY too many supplies this time around, don’t cut back later. I had about 45 extra save-the-dates made, dozens more favors than we will need, 22 more yarmulkes hand-croched than men who will be at the wedding, and I had made 35 more invitation sets than the numbers required to fill our entire A AND B lists. And then yesterday, my fiance’s mother called and asked me to send out one last invite — and we are 100% totally out and now I have to mail out the one invitation I saved for myself. :(
So when it comes to your invites — making way more than you need is still not enough!

@tofutti: The persimmon color (that I call copper :) ) was discovered after a series of trial and error on my printer with our paper. The CMYK breakdown is: but it will probably be different for your printer.

The paper we used is Rolland Hi Tech Imaging Cover
“A premium uncoated cover sheet for use on Laser, Color Copiers, and HP Indigo presses.” Weight: 80 # Dimensions: 18 x 12 Color: Bright White

I purchased it from http://www.paperondemand.com and will be using the same thing for our invites plus a special paper that I will reveal with the invite post.

@julieulie: Oh no! good advice, I’ll find something to do with the extras. Maybe I’ll add glitter and make them Christmas cards haha.

@GetMarried4Less: go for it!
