Card Box/Mail Box

April 25th, 2008 @ 11:35 am by Mrs. Gingerbread

I have a couple of these boxes in my office. I think they’d make excellent card boxes and they’re 2 for $3.99 at Ikea!

But then I started thinking about how much I love mailboxes like this. Having spent part of my childhood in Sweden, they have a nostalgic feel for me. I would love to use this as our card box at our reception and then later use it as our mailbox. Such a nice way to be reminded of our wedding day every time I go to the mailbox (and not because we charged the whole wedding!)

So now the question is where the heck can I find a “Post” mailbox? Mailbox Shoppe has them in a variety of colours, but sadly, they do not ship to Canada :(

Can you have it shipped to a friend in the US and then have them ship it to you? Or if they are guests, have them bring it to the wedding?

I love the vintage mailbox idea, especially that cute red one. Every time you went to get the mail it would be a little memory trip back to your wedding!

I think the boxes are cute too, though, esp if you have them stacked like that, but cut out so that they are actually one big box.

@jackie: Thanks for the Lowe’s tip. I might just have to cross the border and go to the nearest Lowe’s. The more I think about it, the more I desperately want this mailbox!

If you can’t find it in a brick and mortar store, try internet stores or catalogues that specialize in restoration materials. They often have repro details like these.

SO CUTE - I might have to steal this idea, sorry.

Can you make it? It’s looks like just thin sheet metal, pretty easy to work with. The trick part would be the “Post” lettering, but you can use a stencil to paint it. Just a thought.

Weddingbee keeps stealing my ideas! Every time I come up with some idea that is different, next thing I know, I log onto Weddingbee, and one of the bee’s has my same idea (making it seem like I’m just ripping everything off of here). =P

As for the mailboxes, I would suggest checking Ebay. I’ve also scoured some local antique stores/antique fairs, and haven’t come up with anything really useful yet (be careful, because some vintage mailboxes will be too small).

You could also buy a new mailbox that just looks old. You can find those online, as well as places like Lowes or Home Depot.

Great ideas! I’ve got striped Ikea boxes in my office as well - what a clever idea to use them as card boxes. That said, the post box is darling.
