About Mrs. Shortcake

FABU-LUXE, Dah-ling!

April 25th, 2008 @ 1:57 pm by Mrs. Shortcake

So this is old news, but WB reader JFS, pointed out the smashing white dinner jackets worn by the groom and others at socialite Lauren Davis’ wedding in January:

OMG! Is the bride (pretty, but not amazingly gorgeous normally, IMHO), not the most stunning thing ever?

I don’t feel I’ve emphasized that enough. Here, have an extra ‘??!’

OMG!!!! (now I’m getting redundant)

That train! That shrug/blanket/shawl/whatever is to die for (even more than Smitherman and Barnwell :)) !

Davis, who is the Contributing Fashion Editor for Vogue, wed billionaire Andres Santo Domingo in the port city of Cartagena, Columbia. She wore a gown designed by Nina Ricci - a gown made of over 60m of jacquard silk, and took over 1,200 hours to make!

Vogue + billions of smackaroos apparently = OMG!!!

The ceremony was held in a historical church with no air-conditioning. Yikes. Sweaty, yes, but completely fabulous.

CORRECTION: fabu-luxe!

Check out her multiple couture dress changes:

And her drop veil:

And her multi-hued grecian-goddess bridesmaids a la Cream puff:

Even her guests were fabulous:

Coveting. that. dress. would. kill. for. that. on. bridesmaids.

Not so much others:

Niiiiceee. Over the shoulder diamond boulder holder!

In sum, Lauren Davis had the most amazingly hot and sweaty Columbian wedding, and I am completely, utterly, and entirely, head over heels in lust for it. Oh, and Mr. Shortcake is SO wearing a white dinner jacket and black bow-tie!

The. End.

ps. Where can I find a huge amazing shrug/shawl/blanket/whatever? Designers? Any offers? :)

I LOVE her bridesmaid gowns. Does anyone know who designed them? I’d love to have my bridesmaids wear something similar. Thanks!!

Just wondering how you would drag that thing around if you did manage to find it? It’s a great photo prop, but I’m pretty sure I would need to be wearing shoes with serious traction in order to pull it along behind me.

Yay! I’m glad you went for it:) Stick to your guns. You both will look smashing. I’m totally inspired by the multi-hued BM gowns.

I believe each bridesmaid dress was designed by a different designer.

There were some pics in HELLO which were good too.

She is very very thin

Shortcake, not sure if we’ve ever been formally introduced. But I’m a big fan and you, my dear, are one of the cutest and darlingest bees ever!

I’m soo sorry that I have to interrupt my lurking to comment about, of all things, a mistake. Colombian should be spelled with two “o”s. Colombia = the country. Columbia = the university. So sorry to do this to you, but I have a Colombian friend who has beat this into me.

Continue with your regularly scheduled adorableness!

that big dress is a little umm…much…not a fan…but the feathered one is beautiful (long form).

The best of them all though is that guest in blue…talk about upstaging the bride with pure grace kelly elegance!

this is funny as my girls are all wearing different hued flowy dresses. Pricilla of boston does this affordably. Monique L’s evening wear does it exquisitely if you have girlfriends that want a dress in the +$1k range.

As far as your shrug/bolero question. I actually posted an ad on http://www.etsy.com ‘Alchemy’ where you can contract with a designer. Be warned, you will get a bunch of krafty spinners wanting to weave you a civil war Betsy Ross style poncho…. but in between the sad crocheted sweater sellers are some fab designers. You can email me if you want more specifics.

I actually hired a designer who sells on Etsy but owns her own legit boutique and her work is off the grill.

Be sure to post a pic of your dress in the ad so that the designers have an idea of your look and whether your style is the right fit. good luck!

the best part (and its hard to see) is that she cut the bottom of her gorgeous feather nina ricci dress off to create a fun cocktail version.
she’ll probably never wear it again, but i would!
