Fabulous Friday Phone Call

This morning was a busy morning at work for me when the phone on my desk rang. I have caller ID at work so I saw that the caller was Mr. Hum and picked up immediately. Since Mr. Hum works from home and since my office is very small and very quiet, it is always nice to hear his happy voice. However, today was about out of the ordinary because he called me to talk about the wedding.

As I am usually the one to initiate the wedding conversations, I was really happy that he actually wanted to talk about it! And he was calling because he had an idea for the programs! Which he got from reading Weddingbee!

I know this seems like a small thing, but it totally left me feeling stoked because

1) This week has, for previously mentioned reasons, kind of exhausted me wedding-wise and
2) It’s really awesome when he gets excited about something since it is good to see him so happy, and his creative endeavours usually produce amazing results (as we saw when he started to tackle the table cards).

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to blogging about what we come up with once we start designing the program, but right now, I just wanted to share my delight in having such a loving and involved groom. (Major kudos for the second time this week Mr. Hum!)

Because it’s so nice to share sweet things about our partners, I’m putting this one out to the readership - What awesome things has your partner done/helped with during your planning process?

Two great stories of grooms-to-bee in the same Friday? Awesome! Bonus points for all the gents today. :-D

Our invitations finally came back and now we are putting it all together. Last Sunday he sat there and out double sided tape on the front of the invitations so that I can out the band on them. And last night he sat there and used the heat embosser on 250 cards after I hand stamped them because I decided that the invitations still needed some oomph (I think I spelled it wrong).

It’s amazing what he will do and sometimes I’m just floored that he was willing to help!

What a great FI! My hubby-to-be has been wonderful at letting me take the lead on design elements with our vendors and has always stood up to be the “bad cop” when negotiating pricing and services provided. It has been a wonderful relief to have someone else play the bad guy since I hate confrontation!

Aww! I love it when they come through like that.

My man has done a wonderful job of selecting a videogrpaher and he surprised me last week with our amazing honeymoon plans! He did very, very well–gold star!

Did I miss a post on a new format?? What’s going on??

Ahh….it’s back now. I had been getting a weddingbee with no headers, no bee logos, and just a big blue rectangle. Very odd!

I feel very lucky to have an interested and involved FI. Most recently, he followed up with a couple of cake folks to get some tasting appointments confirmed on the calendar, which was helpful as it has been a looooong week at work and I had just had a mini-anxiety episode about all the wedding planning. Hooray for sweeties!

My FI booked us a band! (And we weren’t even planning on getting a band). I was thrilled!

This week I had to be away on an extended field trip with my students for four days/nights. My fiance asked for a list of things to get done while I was gone to help alleviate my stress…so while I was gone, he:

-went to the post office and had our invitation weighed so we could know what stamp amount we’d need
-bought mailing labels online
-fixed our guest list (it got all mixed up in excel somehow)
-figured out how to do a mail merge with Martha Stewart’s wrap-around mailing labels and the font I wanted
-picked up forever stamps and new ink cartridges for our printer at Costco
-reserved a space for us at a first dance lesson!

I mean…WOW…I was floored by his awesomeness! I know exactly how you feel. Now that I’m back, we’re totally ready to print invitations!!

I know this is going to sound like a crazy thing to think my guy is awesome about, but my FI has asked for a “no wedding talk” rule with him until July (a year before the wedding). Rather than bother me or get me down, this idea has really kept me grounded. Yeah, I still check my favorite wedding blogs every day and talk little details to my girlfriends, but I’ve learned to be able to turn the part of me off that wants to plan it all NOW and relax instead.

I think it’s really going to help when we actually get down to the last few months and I feel like going DIY Bridezilla. Besides, when July rolls around, I know I can count on him spoiling me with attention and help :)
