My Dress Is Here!

April 28th, 2008 @ 9:28 am by Mrs. Plum

After much waiting (maybe 2-3 months), J. Scheer finally finished cleaning my gown and shipped it back. There is some good news and some bad news. Here is the unwrapping of the gown!

It came in a huge box inside a box

They packed up my gown very securely - it did not shift, wrinkle, or fold during the delivery process - the folded up my gown in a special way as to not wrinkle it and placed several layers of acid-free tissue paper between the folds. They even put a thin layer of gauze-like material on top of the gown to protect it.

They also included a pair of cotton gauze-like gloves for me to wear when I unpacked and inspected the gown.

z14287306

Here it is! - they cleaned it, fixed the broken bustles, preserved it for me, and steamed it so it is in ready-to-wear condition.

The Bad:
They didn’t fix everything!

A small portion of the top of the gown was not sewn down on the inside of the dress - so it wasn’t perfect….sad04

Also, my veil is ruined!  When they cleaned/preserved my veil, they used some kind of chemical solution that caused the comb of the veil to RUST onto my veil.

I’m calling them first thing this morning, when they open! I sincerely hope they will fix these problems - since they guarantee their work and are very reputable.

I will definitely let you know!

I want to wait to see what they say before I can properly review my experience with their service.

Yikes! Do let us know what they say — I was considering them for preserving my dress. But they are definately more on the $$$ side, so don’t want to shell out unless they are perfect.

Ok phew I dont feel so bad about not having my dress boxed up yet. I am still looking into where to get mine done at. Let us know what they say about the veil.

wow I thought considering how expensive their services are they would be the best. That’s so sad to hear. good warning to stay away…I’d be so upset if they ruined anything of mine considering not only the cost but the sentimental value. Hopefully they will reimburse you for destroying your veil.

My dress has been cleaned but I’m still trying to figure out the best, and most economical, way to preserve it and my veil.

Has anyone else tried other methods (Container Store box, mail-order services) that they’ve been happy with?

I was considering J Scheer too but the price has always stopped me . . .

why does it matter if your veil has a little rust on it after the wedding is over? i don’t get it.

If you don’t mind me asking, how much do they charge?

Wondering - I want it to be pristine for memories! Plus, it’s not right if it was pristine before I sent it in for preservation, but now it’s stained. :(

My sister is going to wear my gown and veil for her wedding and I hope that someday my daughter can wear it too.

Hi Mrs. Plum!

I was wondering…where did you get that gorgeous bracelet? I have been looking EVERYWHERE for a bracelet like that. Please share.

I feel your pain! when I took my dress to be cleaned, while discussing my dress, I became concerned with the veil comb and in particular the natural pearls I’d stitched to it. To my horror, she took it from my hands and started clipping the threads even though I said I’d do it myself. I should have held my ground, but I become tongue tied when talking to people with accents when it becomes clear things aren’t going smoothly. And exactly what I feared happened: she snipped a tiny hole in my veil that I had spent so much time appliquéing lace to by hand!!! I was pretty much speechless, and never did recover my senses to complain.

Macaroon - it’s a Haute Bride bracelet - you can purchase one from http://www.hautebride.com by calling them and ordering it over the phone :)

UPDATE: I called them regarding the veil and they sent me a UPS tracking number to send it back to them. I hope they can fix it. Will update later to let y’all know if it was resolved!

Mrs. Plum - Excuse the multiple emails. I’m not trying to intrude but would you mind telling me how much you paid for that bracelet? Or, if you are planning on selling your bracelet? Cause I would love to buy it! Please let me know.
