Table Mockups

April 28th, 2008 @ 1:06 pm by Mrs. Sundae

We headed up to Wisconsin last weekend to test drive the design for the tables, and it went better than expected! There was so much going on that I didn’t take very many pictures but hopefully you’ll be able to get the idea. The runner now has a black border on one side - my Mom used both satin ribbon and bias tape (you can only see the ribbon in this picture) to try and give it a more “finished” look. Both options looked great but we decided it would be easier for her to use bias tape because it can actually be wrapped around the edge, preventing her from having to finish the edges and then attach the ribbon.

The centerpieces won’t actually be blue hydrangeas, that was just the easiest thing our florist could use for the trial. There are three vases with black river rocks in the bottom, all at different heights and clustered together. We were set up in a meeting room for the trial, so there won’t actually be peach walls and the chairs will be black chiavari. So again, a little imagination is required here!

The linens turned out to be a surprise - they had ordered the wrong samples in more of a sage color, whereas I had requested a “light olive.” I was originally told that the in house linens only came in white, but when we got there and I didn’t like the samples, we were told that there was an in house “olive” overlay….the color is nearly perfect. The runners will need to be adjusted so that they hang down on the long sides of the overlay but this was good news for a variety of reasons - they’re in house so we don’t have to worry about another vendor, and that also means they are a fraction of the cost. It’s the first time something has turned out to be less expensive than expected!

Thanks to my new favorite person on the planet, Danica, we were also able to sit down and hash out about 45 minutes worth of details. We outlined the general layout of the tent, picked out table sizes, discussed hanging the lanterns, all the little details that have just been waiting to be hashed out. I am a little nervous that the centerpieces need to be more “lush” but that might be because there aren’t any place settings on the table. I am talking to our florist about making some revisions to achieve the look we’re going for.

Did any of you make changes to your initial plan once you saw a mockup of the design?

I second LOVING the runner. I’m an event planner in Phoenix … is your mom for hire?!? :) I WANT some of them!!!!!!! Absolutely beautiful. You could even use little black stone rocks for place cards to match this theme :)

I have changed my tables at least 6 or 7 times. I am making it all myself, so I run into all sorts of things and I am trying to simply my design so I don’t have so many elements.

Also, Miss Sundae, I noticed that your profile lists “Knowledge Manager” as your occupation. I am curious, do you have an MSLIS or MLS degree? I am considering doing the program myself and I’d love to know. Thank you!

I think it looks great! It’s simply elegant!

I don’t really think you need to add more to it, but if you do want to, perhaps some blossoms of a different color in the water so that the branch isn’t exposed?

Anything more would be too much!

I love what you’ve done with the runners!

Question: is the background of the fabric pretty close to white? I am thinking about buying some of this fabric, but it would be used on white tablecloths, and I’ve noticed that many damask prints have more of a cream background.

Thanks, Christina! I would say that the background of the fabric is pretty close to white. Its not a pure white, but when all the plates and everything else are on the table I don’t think you would notice at all. Hope that helps!

Hi Miss Sundae, I’ve been thinking about making similar table runners. What size are your round tables and how long are your runners? Do you think the runners have to be floor-length or would shorter still look nice? Thanks!

Miss Sundae says:

hwong14 - Our tables are 72″ rounds, which are basically 6ft across. The runners are 120″ long, which means they hang pretty much to the floor. I don’t think that they would have to be floor length at all, if they hung halfway down the table it would still look nice!
