Here I Go

I’ve made an appointment for next Wednesday, it’s official. I am entering the world of airbrush tanning. I am in my cousin’s wedding next weekend and there is just no chance I can show up as pasty and white as I am now. I am pretty sure I would reflect the light of the camera flash. I’ve tried the self tanning lotions… but, honestly? I am lazy. The whole applying everyday and waiting for it to dry situation deters me. Pathetic, I know, but true.

One of my friends went to Spa Nordstrom for an airbrush tan last week and it looked fantastic. She didn’t appear orange at all. It looked completely natural, like she had a fresh glow about her and was well rested. So that sealed the deal for me. This isn’t a booth application, it’s a situation where someone actually sprays you down….there is some partial nudity involved. I am still a little nervous but I am also just that pasty. I don’t have that type of pretty, alabaster white skin that looks like porcelain when I am not tan. I just look like a ghost who hasn’t left the house in four years.

I booked it on Wednesday so that if something goes horribly wrong, I still have 3 days to exfoliate as much as possible and tone things down. But if I turn out looking half as good as my friend did, I will be thrilled!

Have any of you tried airbrush tanning? I’ll be sure to take some before and after pics ;)

I tried airbrush a few weeks ago as a trial for my wedding, and I loved it. I just got another one today, and I’m going again on Friday (my wedding is May 10th)

Just a warning: If they use the same stuff as the spa here, it has some color to it so that they can tell where they’ve sprayed. I basically walk out looking like I’ve changed race. The first time, I freaked out and washed it off a little early. Most of it washs off and you end up with a nice tan. So don’t wash it off early, no matter how dark you think you are getting.

I am interested to hear your comments on how you liked it. This is a great alternative to lotions and tanning beds to get rid of those pesky summer farmer’s tan.

My FSIL swears by Mystic Tan, she’s a regular. She always looks beautiful!

I’ve done it a couple times and loved it! It is always a little dark the first day after though, so its good that you are going a few days early. Day 2 and 3 look the best!

Has anyone had it done in the DC/Northern VA area? I’d love to give it a try. I hear Mystic can be tricky to get just right and I’d rather have a professional do it. TIA!

Having someone spray you is the best. It is pretty dark the first day like Amanda said, but after that it looks great. I too am afraid of Mystic, I did it once and the whole blocker cream thing didn’t work to well. Having someone do it is totally worth the money! Make sure for the first few hours after you wear clothes you don’t really care about because some of the tanner rubs off. Good Luck!

So… say I’m getting married in August in NY… will the airbrushed tan color transfer or bleed on my dress? I have visions of HUGE orange/tan stains under my arms… Oh my gosh, frightening! I think I just spooked myself.

@Miss Jenny:
Miss Jenny as long as you do it 2-3 days in advance you should be fine. Do a dry run a month or so before your wedding just to see how it looks. After one day you shouldn’t transfer onto anything, but just to be safe definitely try it first!
