How Sweet It Is

April 29th, 2008 @ 10:32 am by Mrs. Petunia

Here are some shots of our delish wedding cake, inspired by Mrs. Bell Pepper’s (if not altogether stolen really):

There were some questions in a previous post about why we didn’t use our custom couple cake topper on the cake. Truth be told, as it got closer to our day, I thought this other one was sweeter:

Also, the little groom had already undergone surgery: a thumb and his nose had fallen off weeks before the wedding, and though super-glued, I wasn’t looking forward to a scenario where Mr. Petunia’s avatar fell apart atop our wedding cake.

One thing I’ll share about cutting into a fondant cake: it’s tough going! Took us quite some time to find a good spot where the knife would go in, thereby ensuing this hilarity:

I was still in stitches when feeding time came!

Thank goodness catering took care of cutting the rest!

As always- love your pictures! Did you make all of the cake flags yourself? They’re adorable :)

Beautiful cake! How did you make the flags? I want to do something similar and can’t find a template.

Alas, I cannot take credit for having made the flags. They were purchased from here: http://www.notepolish.com/category/Custom-Cake-Flags/c120

First off Mrs.Petunia… love the cake. (Mrs.Bellpepper - yours too) its really pretty… for the flags, I think its a great idea.

Laura you can most definitely get away making your own.
All you need: toothpicks, some double sided glue and strips of the message you want.

Your cake is gorgeous! I like the cake topper better…more delicate looking to match the cake detail.

I think you made the right choice on the cake topper… clay leprosy + wedding dessert = “who ate my husband’s thumb?”

And who knew fondant was the sugar equivalent of kevlar? ;)

As always, the joy in your pics just radiates through the computer screen.

(Did you get my email? Check your weddingbee address, if not. :) )

I think the cake is so whimsical, the cake topper matches it perfectly. I hope we have as much fun cutting our cake as you did yours!
