Splurge?

April 29th, 2008 @ 1:08 pm by Mrs. Tiramisu

I probably don’t even need a bag, but I’m sort of in love with this one:

Or how about one like the gorgeous one Mrs. Lovebug had?

Are you planning on having a wedding day clutch? Married girls- did you use one? I know I want it… so do I need it? :)

Tempting treats from here and here.

Personally I couldn’t be bothered to carry anything other than my bouquet and the train of my dress….much of the things that I needed, like touch up lipstick, hotel room key, I gave to my BM’s who in turn gave it to their husbands to keep until the end of the night. Realistically, the day is going to be hectic enough without having to worry about where my clutch would be at the end of the night…so yeah, it’s a nice idea, but I didn’t find it necessary. But that’s just me!

My friend who got married in Sept had the cutest clutch from Target and is letting me borrow it as my “something borrowed” - maybe you can see if someone has one you can borrow?!

I luuuuurve that white one…I’m coveting the blue version!

Maybe this is an extravagance your step-mom (a longtime admirer of wonderful bags with an ever-growing collection in her basement) should consider as a bridal gift.
If only she had a direct link to the exact bag her step- daughter wanted…

I bought the ivory Isaac Mizrahi clutch from Target, but I didn’t really use it during my wedding. I shoved a couple things in it on the morning of my wedding, but then it stayed in the “getting ready room” all day until I grabbed it to go to the hotel at the end of the night. My normal purse would have been fine. The one I bought was cheap and I may use it some other time so I am not too worried about the purchase, but I don’t think you really need one.

I will have too much on my mind that day to even remember if I even ate yet. So a bag would not be a good idea for me. My lipstick and compact will most likely be in the groom’s pockets so that I can do a quick touchup anytime that I need it.

I’m planning to travel like a celeb/high-ranking politician on my wedding day — no purse for me! My MOH will be in charge of carrying all of my necessities. Like others said, i think it will be enough to keep track of my bouquet and train, let alone a purse.

Ah, I have been pining away after that clutch as well — Barb, it’s from J.Crew and may only available on their website. But it sure is gorgeous! :)

@Barb: You are too cute!

As for me I’m probably going to use a red clutch I got from Target last Christmas - it hold a LOT!

Oh that first one is gorgeous gorgeous!!! It hink you know you don’t need one for your wedding day, but having one for everyday life is definitely a need :) - you never know when you might need it!

Barb, you are too sweet.

Miss Tiramisu you read my mind! I have my eye on the exact same clutch only in blue from J Crew. Now, I am just waiting and hoping it goes on sale before my wedding in September. For me this is not a splurge items, it is a necessity! I want to have my compact, lipstick, and other accessories right at my fingertips during the reception. I think you have to judge how much you will use it, and whether it is worth the splurge!

I had a clutch from AT for my wedding and believe it or not, I did actually use it. I had a little mirror, breath mints, tissue and my lipstick. I put the clutch on our head table and then just kept going back for lipstick touch-ups as needed. I loved it and it was way more convenient in my mind than chasing down a BM.

I love the first clutch too, but I personally used a small frame bag that dangled off my wrist for my wedding day. You just want your hands free, especially if you’re carrying a bouquet for any part of the day.

And I really didn’t use the small purse for much. I kept a handkerchief in it, and extra bobby pins, and a few safety pins just in case. Ended up needing them, but I could’ve just popped up to the dressing room and gotten them instead if necessary.

I agree with MissBlueBear too. You’ll be so busy all day that you won’t be worried about it. I’ve totally eaten my words on this one because I went and bought myself one a while ago. Knowing that I may not use it on my wedding day, I chose to purchase it from Charlotte Russe. It was only $11.
The clutches you found are gorgeous!

You don’t need it, won’t use it. I speak from experience. The BM’s will carry your lipstick for you.

louvigilante says:

I sooo didn’t use my bag. In fact I handed it to someone and lost it. It recovered somewhere the next day but it is one thing you soooo don’t need and probably leave somewhere. You have flowers to carry, why deal with another thing. If you have something you want to keep throughout the night (lipstick, powder), give it to your BMs to hold.

I splurged- well and sort of restrained myself. I really wanted a Judith Leiber, but just couldnt’ justify it so I bought a $100 crystal covered clutch with a heart and four leaf clover on it (we were married on 07/07/07). I never even used it the whole day… but I still love it so. Nothing like a great bag.

no “need” for one. and unless you KNOW you’re going to take a cute pic holding it, there’s really no point. think of how you can take a pic holding it perhaps! good luck!

Weddingmuse says:

Well of course you don’t NEED one, but who can resist a really cute and gorgeous handbag? Plus you could so use it again, it would last for years.

I made a purse last week for a bridesmaid in black and it turned out great. I even put her initials inside ala Mrs. Lovebug’s bag.

Way easier than I thought it would be (see the U-handblog for instructions), and I’d never made a purse before. Including the iron-on embroidered initials (from Jann’s), the bag cost less than $10 to make.

Mrs. Corn says:

I had a clutch…and I never once even touched it. It was nice to have all of my things that I needed in one place, so if you can justify it that way, go right ahead. But in reality, you should go ahead and have your clutch match whatever your bridesmaides are wearing…or better…whichever guest you are going to make hold it all day ;)

I don’t know if I will need one, but I bought one and I love it: http://nellehandbags.com/shop/

I plan to place it on our sweetheart table so that I have it if I need it. Then again, I am obsessive about powder and Burt’s Bees:)
