All of This for a Stand?

April 30th, 2008 @ 5:46 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

Working on all of the little details for our wedding is turning out to be WAY more difficult then searching for vendors. Right now I’m on the hunt for 8-9″ black table stands. I don’t want anything fancy or theme related. Just some decent, plain looking stands. So far, these options are the only two that I’ve come up with (found at Food Service Direct):

Both options involve some sort of swirls, which seem a little busy to me, but could easily work for the tables. I know this is me being super nitpicky, but which do you all prefer, option 1 (swirl on the bottom) or option 2 (swirl on the top).

What are some good resources for table stands out there?

I spent WAY longer than I thought I’d ever need to looking for table number holders. We had table tents, but I was afraid it’d be too windy and they’d fly away.
Caution: be careful with the shipping costs on these as they are often heavy.
I think I like the swirl on top, but I don’t know what your numbers look like, and you don’t want the swirl to compete with your number.
I ended up just propping up the table numbers between 2 votive candles at each table. I’m not sure if it’s important for you that the numbers be high. Best of luck!

Table stands was one of the biggest pains in the arse! This was an item that I expected to be easy to find, and was surprised when it wasn’t. I searched a very long list of party supply vendors to find some, and found two places that carried them, but in the end went with minature easels from Office Depot.

I ordered these

They were about as plain as I could find. Hope that helps!

Option 2 is my favorite of the 2. I think the swirl on the top is whimsical.

I really liek option #2 with the swirl at the top. I tried to find them on the website but couldn’t. Could you send me the direct link to possible order some for my wedding?

I like #2, swirl on top. #1 reminds me of a stove burner…

Good luck!

TRY A DOLLAR STORE! oops sorry about the caps…find cheap ones and spray paint them whatever color you want.

I like the swirl on top.

Swirl on top, because I think the solid base will be more stable. Also, remember you can control the look of the swirl on top a little because depending on which loop of it you let the paper rest in, the paper itself will cover part of the swirl.

i think the second one (swirl on top) looks less like a typical restraunt stand, and is thus my choice. i’ve seen the top ones in sooo many diners / cafes that it doesn’t scream “wedding” to me at all.

Classic Party Rental (where we are renting our china, glasses, everything)… rents table number stands - and they are nice. CPR (which resembles a monopoly) rents everything. You can think of it, they rent it. Urns and baskets for your parasols, card boxes, obviously table clothes and runners, lots of stuff. A lot of bees buy everything - I don’t understand why more of you don’t rent things. In the end, I don’t think people save that much money from buying everything.

I like the swirl but have you checked out what the hotel has? I made the mistake and bought things that I didn’t realize our vendors already had. oops!

@enmoore66: You’d be surprised how close the price is on some things for buying versus renting. But only SOME things. The bonus about buying things is that you can resell them to recoup some of the cost… on craigslist or the weddingbee classifieds! But then, who wants to schlep all the stuff around all the time.

I know this won’t work for you, but maybe it will help someone else.

Crate and Barrel has short (2 inches high) holders for $1.95. They could be used for table numbers or place cards:

This place has a whole bunch of good options for cheap. Many are chrome or stainless, but you could easily spraypaint them for a couple bucks. They also have the same ones you were looking at at FoodService Direct for wayyyy cheaper:

What if you created a table number “sandwich” and covered up the holder part? This would enable you to use the stand- but not let the actual “paper holder” clash with your table number?

I thought I had to order table number holders, but when I thought to ask our caterers it turns out they had them to use. Have you asked yours?
In any case, I like the ones with the swirl better.

I just wanted to say thanks to you all for the great ideas and input. I was originally going for the first one, but you all have convinced me that the second one would be better. I’ll keep you all posted on my final choice!

You guys are the best!

I like the one with the swirl at the top. But it would also depend on your table numbers.

#2 is my favorite too! Does your venue have stands you can use? It might be a nice thing to not have to buy;)

It’s probably too late and I’m already outnumbered, but I prefer the first option with the swirl on the bottom, especially if you have nice table numbers you don’t want to take away from them with a busy swirl.

This is going to sound so bad, but it is for the greater good. The last time I needed table number holders I went to a florist and begged for those clear plastic card holders. She gave me all I needed for free. I placed them in the centerpieces. It actually looked a lot better than you’d think. You didn’t really notice that holder at all, just the flowers and the number, which was the idea.

I used those floral picks that go in bouquets you recieve from people (think clear & super cheap)… I forgot about them seriously until the day of the wedding when I was at the last minute printing out the table name signs & realized I forgot to order them! (Talk about panic)… I called my friend and asked her to go to a florist and get them for me- they actually worked well & I just had them popped right into the flowers.
Yes kind of cheap but it actually looked alright!

I’m not sure if you’ll see this or not, but I like the ones with the swirl.

My parents came to the rescue with this one. We wanted stands, but didn’t want to spend a lot of $$ on them, so we bought sturdy floral wire at home depot, used a wire cutter to make them the right size, and then my dad just used pliers to form the little swirl on top. It saved us so much money!!
