Finding Small Shoes For Small Feet

April 30th, 2008 @ 3:40 pm by Mrs. Toucan

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about adding a pop of pink by having my bridesmaids wear hot pink shoes with their blue dresses. Finding pink shoes for two of my bridesmaids (one of my sisters and FSIL) wasn’t hard at all - they have “normal-sized” feet. The other two were an entire different story - my cousin is a size 5.5 like me, and my little 17 year-old sister is a freakishly small size 4! ;)

If you recall, the two with “normal-sized” feet had picked the same styled-dress, and the two with tiny feet chose the another dress, so I didn’t feel the need for them to have matching shoes either. :) But now, the hard part - where to find size 4 pink heels?!?!

Tra-la! Nordstrom to the rescue!

Nordstrom actually carries a few shoe brands that range all the way down to a size 4! After not seeing the sizes I needed online, I, crazy-lady Miss Toucan, called my local Nordstrom and had them track down the 2 pairs of shoes in the sizes that I needed and had them ship it (for free!) to my bridesmaids. All then that was left to do (other than pay for them of course) was to sit back and pray that they fit. I finally got word today, that they both fit perfect! :) My little sister is especially happy because these are probably only heels she’s ever found that she not only fit (um, who else is a size 4?!), but actually really likes!

Has anyone else had sizing issues (in clothes or shoes) with their bridesmaids because one or more were rare sizes?

*I’d like to make an extra little note that this might be an excellent option for bridesmaid shoes because they do come in a large range of sizes and 7 different colors!

Hey Miss Toucan… I just wanted to tell you that I found a site were 1- they have your size of shoes, 2- shoes as low as 8.99 and really nice shoes too.

Im gonna blog about it… just thought I would give you the first look: cutesyshoes.com

I wear size 4.5 (and sometimes size 4 depending on the shoe)…every shoe salesperson tries to talk me into trying on a size 5…only to discover that I am truly a size 4.5.

I buy get my shoes at Nordstrom too (usually Linea Paolo or Circa Joan & David brands b/c they consistently make shoes in small sizes). It is very frustrating falling in love with a shoe to discover they don’t even make them in sizes smaller than 5.

My wedding dress is being made custom length (I’m also super short - only 5′) and I wore three inch heels at the fitting so I’m trying to find some cute shoes…if I don’t find anything new, I’m just going to wear the shoes I wore to the fitting (the shoes are super cute, but I’ve had them for a while and am hoping to find something new to wear)

Touc, although I am now a size 6-7 depending on the brand (seriously, why can’t TPTB even standardize SHOE sizes??), I did spend many of my teenage years as a size 5. I remember repeatedly hearing “What? Oh, we NEVER carry size fives.” Um, OK, thanks– I’ll just go barefoot.

Congrats on finding a pretty shoe that doesn’t look like it came from the kids department (where I was usually directed by the incredulous salespeople after they looked down their noses at my wee toe-holders.)

thanks so much!!! I’m a 5.5, like yourself… one of my bridesmaids is smaller than a 4 (but 4 would suffice). I thought she was destined to wear too-cutesy little kid shoes, but you have given us hope!

I have a similar issue. My feet are not as small, a 5.5-6.5, but I have real issues trying to find shoes that are wide enough, The bones at the broadest part of my foot are really big and a normal size seven is often too tight, and then they don’t fit in the length. I often by childrens size 4.5 (these are the same size but wider for growing feet as a size 5.5 womens).
Being short (slightly under 5 ft) and large boned (my wrist is actually wider than my 5′10″ average bone structure FSIL’s wrist)it makes it hard to find cloths and shoes that fit right.

@emily: Also have her try Cinderella of Boston. They have shoes for as small as 2.5!

Seriously… can we see a photo of a size 4 foot, with maybe a size 7 thrown in there for comparison? I’m really curious. Mrs. Onion showed her super tiny ring size fingers once!

PS: Not a foot fetishist. Pinky Swear :)

opposite problem….i have a maid who wears a 12 or 13 depending on the shoe. another maid who wears an 11.

I wear a 10.5 and i often have trouble finding shoes bc sooo rarely can you find a 10.5 and some 10’s are just a tad bit tight but the 11s are always too big!

:(

many popular brands run up to a 10 only, so i am letting the ladies find their own shoes and purposely let go of my dream of tea length dresses. bc with those i felt that it would look better to have them wear matching shoes.

everyone will be in floor length skirts, so you wont be able to see their feet and it wont matter.

Yeah! There is someone who understands!
I am a size 5, but…have wide feet.
If there is a size 5, they tend to be narrow.
FYI: Charles David is one brand that has size 5, with an average width.

@GetMarried4Less: You know, I don’t think it’s necessary to have everyone match - even if they all are wearing the same dresses! Maybe you still can do tea length, and tell everyone to get a specific type of shoe - like, “gold strappy heels.” I think your maids will still look pretty uniform, and they’d all get to pick there own shoes!

ah, i’m in the middle range, so my 7.5-feet are consistently sold out! i’ve actually been envious of my size 5 mom because she ALWAYS gets the best sale rack for shoes :)

i second the picture of a size 4 foot!

Hi, I wear a 3.5 - 4 in women’s shoes (2 -2.5 in little kids) and know the problems that come along with finding modern, designer-like shoes for small feet! I usually order my shoes from Cinderella of Boston but this is not convenient as you have to have them shipped, then try them on, etc. I wish there were more options for us petitie feet women as I would spend any amount if I could get “real” shoes in my size!
