What Should I Do With This Box?

April 30th, 2008 @ 10:31 am by Miss Cherry Pie

Check out this sweet box I got at the Fremont antique market a few weeks ago. I think it was used as a rolodex. I would have suspected it was a recipe box if not for the “Mc” tab next to the “M” tab. ( Unfortunately, it’s missing the letters V thru Z. Whoops. )

I picked up this box because it’s so cute and rustic that I just have to use it for something. And I totally just noticed the embossed logo of the lady in a dress at a filing cabinet. How quaint!

Maybe it would be a neat addition to the guestbook table. I could print up some cards and have the guests write notes and draw pictures on them, then have them file the cards in the box by their last name to keep the cards from piling up on the table.

I thought about using the box as storage for escort cards but it’d just have to be storage because asking our guests to sort through the box to get their name card would create waaaaay too much of a bottleneck.

Maybe we could use it as a card box… but I think it’s too small for that.

If we took the alphabetical file cards out of it, we could use it as a small container for something. Pens? Pencils? Pledge cards for donations to the Glacier National Park Fund?

But you know what? Even if we don’t end up using the box for something “functional,” I’m definitely bringing it along for decor!

Please, share your suggestions for the box… what should we do with it?

Maybe you could decorate the inside and use it as a ring box for the ring bearer to carry?

Brooklyn Bride posted about Martha’s version of this.

I’ve seen people use these to store the response cards they get back. And then after the wedding, you could use it for your recipes.

I have been to weddings where they had both a guest book and then an address box like this one and had everyone write their addresses (and b-days for family) on cards and then the newlyweds could use it as their address book- plus with something that cute, I bet you would like to use it! - Another Seattle-based bride getting married elsewhere

You could also use it for a shower- have the hostess ask people to bring their favourite family recipe for you, and use it as a recipe box.

Martha Stewart’s latest magazine showed this as a guest book idea :)

I’ve seen it as a escort card box - divided by the guest’s last name.

I have been looking for something like this because I am going to keep my RSVP cards, put recipes on the back of them and then store them in a container like yours. This way I have momentos of who was at the wedding & I’m not wasting all that paper. I also like the idea of using it as an address “book”.
