I’ve made an appointment for next Wednesday, it’s official. I am entering the world of airbrush tanning. I am in my cousin’s wedding next weekend and there is just no chance I can show up as pasty and white as I am now. I am pretty sure I would reflect the light of the camera flash. I’ve tried the self tanning lotions… but, honestly? I am lazy. The whole applying everyday and waiting for it to dry situation deters me. Pathetic, I know, but true.

Even though we have a dessert included in our 5 course meal, I’ve always wanted to have a wedding cake and the extra dessert wasn’t going to stop me. We decided to hire Sophie of Les Fantaisies de Sophie. She is really talented and not to mention extremely sweet. Sadly, ten years ago her daughter Catherine was born with a severe handicap and Sophie (our baker) decided to change her career choice to something which allowed her to be with her daughter and give her the attention she deserves. Luckily for us, she became a baker and honestly not only did her story touch me, but her positivity and outlook on life blew me away - we hired her on the spot.

About Me: I’m a Gemini to the extreme. On one side, I’m a girly girl. I read countless bridal and fashion magazines, and have an obsession with keeping up with the latest Hollywood gossip. On the other side, I’m a sports fanatic. Despite being a full-time bride-to be, full-time research assistant, and part-time student, I’m also a full-time Red Sox fan from spring training to October, and a full-time Patriots fan from mini-camp to February. I devote almost as much time researching my for fantasy football team as researching for our wedding!
When we first started registering for gifts, Mr. Toucan and I weren’t really sure what price ranges our gifts should fall under. We didn’t want to look like we were asking for too much, but at the same time, we didn’t want to register for things we didn’t really like either. When we registered at Macy’s (I know a lot of people here don’t like the Macy’s registry, but it’s easy for our guests), they provided us with a little guideline of how many gifts we should register in each price range. The registry consultant also suggested that we add a few “big ticket items” to our registry. This made me feel a little uncomfortable. What would guests think when they saw a $400 price tag on ONE item? Would they think we were greedy, asking for something so expensive?
In the end, I figured we had enough items at different price points in our registries, so I added this bad boy:

They’re so lucky. We girls spend hours upon hours in the search for our wedding gown. We wrestle with the seemingly endless choices of cut and fabric and length and shade of white and on and on and on. And then once we find The Perfect Dress, we have to fork over an obscene amount of money for a garment we will wear once. For about 6 hours. Yup. Boys are way lucky. Rented, off the rack, or bespoke, a good suit is a thing of beauty that will last for, well, a while. It can be worn again and again on any number of occasions.
Now, Mongolia was hard on good suits. I mean really hard. All that dirt and ice and coal dust just reduced all Mr. Donut’s suits to mere threadbare shadows of their former selves that no amount of dry cleaning was going to cure. He needed serious wardrobe reconstruction, stat! One of the advantages of living in Singapore was that there were a plethora of good tailors, so getting a really nice handmade suit at a great price was pretty easy. Jack Custom Tailors in Far East Plaza came highly recommended, and so way back in September we stopped by and ordered what was to be the first of many bespoke suits for Mr. Donut. He’s absolutely besotted with them.
