Andy: I am unfamiliar with “Cocktail Attire.” What is that?
Ben: Have you seen the movie “Cocktail?” I believe Tom Cruise prances around in a shirt and his underwear. I’d recommend that.
Mr. Penguin: I assume you dress up as your favorite cocktail. You could probably wear a cherry as a hat and a pink shirt and come as a Shirley Temple.
If you’re at that point where you’re wondering what attire to suggest for guests at your wedding, here’s a fun list.
Black Tie - The most formal attire is requested. Tuxes for men, evening or ball gowns for women.
Black Tie Optional - Male guests are invited to wear tuxes, but can wear dark suits. Women wear dresses, ranging from evening gowns to cocktail party dresses. This implies the event is formal.
Semi-Formal - Tuxes not required, nor are long dresses. Suits for men are still implied, and women are invited to wear short or cocktail dresses.

Dear Wedding Shoes,
I really hate to say this, because you know how much I love you, but, way back in February I almost cheated on you.

(My Naturalizer Shoes - the pair I bought are pewter)

Hey guys - this is BIL Bee with an update on the new Meet The Bees feature on the front page…
We’ve made a few changes based on your feedback.
The first few times we added this feature, it ended up slowing down our database (and the site). But we’ve made some changes, and things seem a lot better.
Let us know if the feature is working for you!

Sometimes wedding inspiration comes from unexpected places. Today I stumbled upon the blog: Wear Palettes. The blogger, a Swiss graphic design student Daniel, takes color palettes from The Sartorialist clothing. This blog is a great place to find unexpected color combos. The best part? The attire selection for your wedding is already halfway completed for you.

“Make an elegant invitation statement without the fuss. Stylish invitation sets with matching envelopes, reception and response cards included.”
I was SO happy to mail my invitations and get them out of here I thought I was going to burst. We finished the invites about a month ago, but getting all of them assembled, numbered (I almost forgot to number the RSVP cards, even after lots of bee advice!), addressed and stamped took awhile!
My mom and my grandmother helped me to put the finishing touches on our envelopes. First, my grandmother carefully glued these liners into our envelopes:

We only used two different papers because we ran out of the first, but I ended up liking them both.

Thanks for all your kind comments on our iPod disaster, everyone! As long as I mentioned my much-obsessed-over playlists, here they are. If they can help anyone else’s song-choice process, maybe they’ll serve some purpose!
But first a story/tip. By now, most everyone knows the standard music advice like “pay attention to the lyrics” (some seemingly romantic songs are actually quite depressing when you listen to the words), and “choose short songs” (you don’t want to be dancing for ever … and ever … and ever). But one that’s often overlooked is to pay special attention to the START of each song.
This is particularly true for key songs like processionals, recessionals, and the first dance. People respond best if the song catches their attention from the start. For example, for our recessional, we considered “So Happy Together,” by the Turtles. But there’s a whole verse before it hits the happy, uplifting chorus. By then we would have been down the short aisle and gone.

No, this is not a post about hygiene…although more than one bee confessed to not showering enough over the long weekend. So I’ve been checking the weather religiously to see what was in store for this weekend.
I’m a little bummed that of all the days for it to rain, that it’s going to rain on Saturday! What’s going on Saturday you ask? It’s my Bridal Shower/Bachlorette Party!
After our first dance, we were served our first course and the toasts began. For a very small wedding we had a number of people speak. All three of our groomsmen (Mr. Onion’s brother, father and best friend) spoke as did two of my bridesmaids and my brother. But these are the things that make a celebration special. No one took too long and it was great for our guests to hear a little bit about us that they might not have known.

This is one of my favorite photos of the evening — we are both so happy and are toasting with my bridesmaid who gave two toasts — one quick and unplanned reading of our apache blessing that wasn’t able to be heard due to fire engine sirens, and then her real toast later in the evening.

Another one of my Memorial Day weekend trips was taken to Hobby Lobby. I love this store. It seems like every time I walk in there, whatever I’m looking for is 50% off. This trip was no different! I knew that I wanted to put about five picture frames on the guestbook table - two pics from my bridal portraits, and three from our engagement portraits.
Lo and behold, when I walked in and headed to the black pictures frames, they were 50% off! I chose 2 - 8×10s, 2 - 5×7s and 1 - 4×6 to put on the table. I believe I spent somewhere about $40 with tax for all five frames. Then, I took my cds of pics to the local Walmart and printed them out on the Kodak kiosk. $20 for all 5 photos, not too bad if I say so myself. In about 30 minutes I had all of the pics, headed home to trim them up and put them in their new frames.
Our big e-pic. Some people have complained because they don’t get why it’s so sunny and orange, but this is one of Mr. H and my favorite pics, so it was definitely in!

…Everything was in place. Mr. Lovebug and Melissa had taken up their positions on the steps of the ceremony site. The string quartet was playing the last few bars of Canon. I waited with bated breath for my cue. All I could feel, all I was aware of, was the breeze stirring my skirts.
Only, wait. That breeze sure is…breezy. In fact, that’s not so much a breeze as it is wind. I look up at the sky. It’s suddenly grey. It’s so very…grey. Oh my god. It’s going to rain. It’s going to rain on my–
CRRAAAACK! Audible gasps. Nervous laughter. What the…? What’s going–
And then, before I know what’s happening, the music starts. I wouldn’t know what the commotion was until after the ceremony, when I find out that seconds before I walked out, the wind tore a huge branch off one of the trees. It came crashing down inches away from one of the photographer’s assistant’s head, nearly braining him.

Today we leave for the wedding!! We are driving up to Old Orchard Beach this afternoon (assuming all goes well), setting up tonight (which is AWWWWESOME because they don’t have a Friday wedding), and then the festivities begin for our thunderstormy wedding tomorrow!!
Thank you all for your help in this process! I always know I can turn to the hive for the toughest questions!! I’ll be back Sunday and the picture-sharing will begin!!!
Before I go, I will leave you with this: what does it look like to have 700 flowers at the foot of your bed?? I think it’s something… like this…

Mr. Peacock’s sister is throwing us a co-ed shower in June and I am so excited! The invites arrived last week and they could not be cuter
I love the Mexican theme.
His sister and her husband like to order their Mexican food from a little restaurant down the street from them. It’s really, really good. Hopefully the margaritas will be, too - I’m making them! I’ll tack my recipe onto the end of this post.

Nothing fancy schmancy but we needed table numbers for the Chinese banquet and wanted one that could give us space to write each guest’s name at each table, stood on its own, and showed the number. But I couldn’t find a simple tri-fold template online that I could use and make easily, so I created my own and it’s shared here for you all!!
I kept mine really really simple but you can use the template and dress it up in so many different ways! Here’s how it looked prior to printing it on Staples Cover Letter stock paper.
