Man Parties

May 1st, 2008 @ 4:30 pm by Mrs. Lily

So, the last time I blogged I was writing about my own risqué bachelorette party.  It got me thinking about the flip side– what do men do to celebrate the end of their bachelorhood?  Yes, yes, traditionally it involves looking at boobies, but these days there seems to be more than that.  Guys have really stepped up the male bonding experience with gambling, paint ball, laser tag, fishing excursions, etc. etc.

Are you ladies curious about what other people’s guy friends and hubbys did for their bachelor party?  I am!  Leave a comment or a story if you know of some interesting bachelor parties — I want to peek into the world of men for a change!  Hee, hee…

My FI just went to New Orleans last weekend for his bachelor party! I think it mosly involved drinking, boobs, eating crawfish and gambling!!! Not sure how I feel about it :D

My gentleman friend is the best man for a very dear friend of ours, and they had their bachelor party last weekend. Along with about 10 other dudes, he rented out an entire summer camp for a weekend. They swam, climbed on the ropes courses, played video games on a big projector screens, and drank lots o’beer. They even cooked for themselves for the entire weekend! My boyfriend said it was “probably the best weekend of his life.” :)

I hate to be so cliche’ but the bachelor party is by far my least favorite thing about the wedding “stuff”. Not at all because of my mister, but b/c of his friends…man-wh*res. Blech.

I think my FI might be going paint balling. Not sure that is what he wants to do, more like the best man, but thats another story. :)

I’m kinda curious if any ladies out there tried to plan their b-parties for the same night as her FI. Just seems like you would probably care less about what the guys were off doing if you and your girls were having a little good, clean fun at the same time. I don’t know that I’m going to be able to work that out but it seems like a good idea.

Funny! My Fiance went to New Orleans a couple of weeks ago. They have a nice tradition in his circle of going out to a good restaurant for a nice dinner for one of the nights. Like, shirt and tie. Other than that, they watched the basketball college finals and threw out beads from the balcony of a bar. My fiance is 32, so his bachelor party was more tame than the previous ones when they were younger and less mature. They went into a strip club for a little while- some stayed longer. They also sought out some chocolate shops- my fiance is a chocoholic.

They really geared the party toward him- he is very laid back. He actually ended up keeping in touch with me and was so excited when he saw another couple getting married in his hotel! He brought me home pralines, choclates and some voodoo. And he sent me some nice wine while he was gone. He is the sweetest! And I’m glad he has such good friends that respect who he is and what he would want- and treated him like a prince. :)

SKM, I totally know where you are coming from. My FI’s best man, who is also his brother, thinks he’s a character straight off of Entourage. I think the thing that annoys me the most is that he is dead set on doing what he wants and thinks will be fun/nasty/embarrassing to FI. I just want my man to have fun and I kinda wonder if he won’t get stuck as the designated driver instead.

When my FBIL got married a few years ago, my FI and about 8 of their closest friends took him skydiving for his bachelor party. They had an amazing time and also bought the video footage of the whole experience… which they then played at the rehearsal dinner for the whole party to enjoy. (Their mom had NO idea that’s what they were doing, and she nearly fell out of her chair when she saw BOTH of her boys jumping out of a plane!) I’m hoping that one of our friends will come up with something just as exciting (and boob-free ;) ) for my FI!

@Emma: What an awesome idea! *I* would’ve wanted to go!

My fiance is going to be playing golf the day before the wedding as his “bachelor party.” He’s obsessed with golf, so it kind of makes sense :)

My FI is taking his guys white water rafting the day before the wedding….fun!! It’s not the safest thing to do though, so I am mildly paranoid :/

For my friends it seems the guys are getting in on the weekend trips too! My sister’s hubs took his boys to Miami (from CA)! Pretty big trip! Others have gone surfing in Cabo and partied in Cancun.
My FI is going to do a huge Poker Night. He loves playing poker and it’s really all he wanted!

We are having our bachlorette/bachlor parties on the same day the saturday of memorial weekend. The guys are all getting up to go golfing, and the girls are just going to sleep in, lol! Then the guys and girls are meeting at the groom’s father’s house for some canoodling. After which, the girls will be leaving for downtown Chicago for a show and some clubbing. The guys will be staying at the groom’s dads house, where they will be having a HUGE poker tournement with all the guys and strippers serving them beer… lol. After all they we will all meet back up to hang out and then crash.

MY FI and I are actually going to have ours on the same night. We both have a lot of girl AND guy friends, and a lot of them are mutual. So us girls are going to do some girly things for a while, while the guys go off and do boyish things, and then later we’ll meet at a bar to hang out together and part the rest of the night away.

We’re both really happy because it means we get to spend our b-parties with ALL our friends… plus we get the added bonus of seeing each other at the end of the night to trade stories.

My FI is in New Orleans right now with 12 of his closest friends at Jazz Fest. We have gone Jazz Fest together for many years, and I’m super jealous that I’m not invited (read: banned from the state of Louisiana) this time. I’m sure they will stay up all night and listen to a ton of great music, and hopefully not get in too much trouble. He just called from the fairgrounds and held up the phone so I could hear one of my favorite musicians. That’s why I love him. :-)

When I saw this post title, I totally read it as “man panties”… I suppose those might come up at SOME bachelor parties?

A guy I know went to Disneyland for a long weekend with his boys. If they did anything raunchy, no one back home heard about, and we all think it was a pretty fun-but-wholesome choice!

My fiance is going to Panama City! No! NOT Panama City in Florida, but Panama City, Panama. All his friends have had their bachelor parties in other countries (Costa Rica, Scotland…) so I guess it’s to be expected. Not sure why they are obsessed with that. Maybe is the more lax legal systems? Hmm… Don’t get me thinking! ha! ;)

These responses are AWESOME!!! I love that so many guys are doing things differently than just the whole stripper deal. Seems like there are a lot of adventure activities out there — rafting, going abroad, sky diving (scary), etc.

For the pinkestpainter — my hubby and I had our parties on the same night. I loved doing it that way. The next day we were both on the floor laughing at all the funny events of the night before and neither one of us felt left out!!! :-)

My FI and his best friend went to Boston and NY to watch some baseball games. We live in TX and they wanted to see a game at Yankee Stadium before they move to their new one. I keep making fun of them for going on a romantic trip for two but they are also planning a fishing trip with all their buddies in a few weeks right before the wedding.

My hubby went golfing- seriously. Him and 6 other guys went to one of the nice courses in St Augustine read=expensive thank God it wasn’t on my dime!! & we live here & it is the headquarters of the Golf people so = lots of golf courses. He enjoyed it and it relaxed him. I also sent him golfing on the big day… I knew he couldn’t be around all the hecticness or he would freak out!!!

suzanno says:

My FI is also going golfing! His three best friends (some of them have been friends since grade school) got rooms at the Coeur d’Alene resort for the weekend, and are golfing there (floating green, apparently every man’s dream to combine boating with golfing) and three other spendy courses. It will be serious golf - he will be worn out after that - drive over Friday morning, 18 holes in the afternoon, 18 holes Saturday morning and afternoon both, and 18 more on Sunday morning before driving home. In the evenings they will sit on the dock at the resort and drink gin and tonics. It’s totally his kind of weekend. He does have one friend who would be a strip club (and more) kind of guy, and they purposely didn’t invite him. Good excuse anyway - can’t golf with 5!

he played video games and hung out at gameworks. for his brother, they went rock climbing and camping at joshua tree national park. another friend’s party was go-karting. all of their parties were squeaky clean!

I’ve always been uncomfortable with the ‘traditional’ bachelor party sleaze. I’m so relieved that my fiance isn’t into it (although… that’s probably why I’m marrying him!).

For his brother’s BP, they went rafting… lots of beer and sandwiches were involved. Because of schedules, he’s not sure what he and his brother will be doing, but something along the lines of hiking/camping.

My brother and his friends have gotten more spectacular with every wedding. They have met in Chicago for a Cubs game, gone to Las Vegas, and hit the clubs in Austin, TX.

My FI has two groups of friends. His softball buddies and his Mt. Buddies. They each have thier own tradition for B-Parties.

The Softball guys rent a house in the Poconos and drink, gamble and go to a strip club. (My FI claims he hates this part of it. Oddly, I actually believe him. If it was my brother saying the same thing I wouldn’t believe him.)

The Mt. guys go up to his friends cabin in north central PA and light fireworks and do stupid men things like ride sleds behind trucks going down really steep roads 3 miles long at the edge of a cliff. I’m more worried about the mountian trip. He may not have looked at any naked women but he could blow his finger off or get himself run over by his own truck.

Me, I’d be super happy with a day of pampering or going out dancing with the girls. I don’t need to risk my life to have fun.

one of my friends had a guys weekend trip to arizona to catch a spring training game and while the everyone else wanted to go out and party that night, the groom was too afraid of missing his flight so they didn’t. lol. then when he started hearing what went down for the bachelorette party, well he was definitely jealous that us ladies partied as hard as we did. yup, a good ole party with men dressed as ladies. gotta love it.

my bf isn’t at all interested in having a bachelor party. he’s more low key than his friends and he’d much rather just hang out somewhere and that’s it. and if there’s any random excitment, i know it would have been from the other guests. i’m glad i won’t be going to that party. lol.

My FI cousin and all his boys went to a football game and went to dinner. I don’t know what my FI will do, but it is up to him and his best man. No worries on my part.

@missopie- The guys will have fun in Panama. They might know this already, but, the Panamanians have what they call party buses. They are school buses that you ride around the city and listen to music and drink. It is one of the craziest and fun things I have ever seen. The buses are all decorated and the people are great. If they haven’t heard of it, you should definitely have them check it out.

My FI and his buddies went out skeet shooting at a range in the morning, then go-karting in the afternoon. No idea what they did at night but he got home pretty early so that was good.

Oh goodness…

My FBIL’s bachelor party last summer started out pretty even-keel. My guy was his best man and neither of them wanted crazy stuff like strippers, so they just went to the latests “Pirates of the Carribean” movie and out to a bar. Unfortunately, the groom’s buddies got one too many drinks in him… and passed out on the front porch.

Around 3:30 or so, my fiance got his brother inside and into the bathroom to get ready for bed… where he was discovered by my FMIL several hours later, dead to the world on the floor with his pants down.

FMIL’s remark? “Well… A lot has changed in the past fifteen years.” :) (bwaha! I love her.)

Several hours and plates of scrambled eggs later (why he thought this would make him feel better, I will never know), FBIL was a doting and focused groom, but I don’t think anyone who knew about it will forget about it… especially his poor bride!

My now-hubby and I had our nights out 2 nights before the wedding. We went to Asia SF (fabulous fun times) and the boys went to a SF Giants game. Then they came to the club for dancing with us afterward. It was all around awesome and I didn’t have anything to worry about.

A few years ago my husband’s close friend got married - they took him on a “road trip” that involved a local strip club, a strip club in Niagara Falls, and then a run to White Castle (a la Harold and Kumar). We’re Canadian, though, so the closest White Castle was in Cleveland. And yes, they rented a van and rolled into White Castle around 4am, had some sliders, and then drove home. When they got home they smelled pretty bad.
