Addressing The Envelopes

May 2nd, 2008 @ 11:46 am by Mrs. Pineapple

When it was time to address the envelopes for the save the dates, I knew exactly who could give me a hand (or at least let me borrow one). Enter my honorary bridesmaid Jacki. She is also a designer and has crazy lovely handwriting. She even brought over yummy cinnamon rolls from Dozen Bakery. So good. How come she is the one doing me a favor and she is the one bringing goodies?!

Above is one of Jacki’s envelopes, she addressed the actual invite envelopes and I did the save the dates. Hopefully no one will move between now and invite time.

This is one of my envelopes. Not as fancy as Jacki’s, but it’ll do.

How are you addressing your envelopes?

Nice! I just used the magnificant and wonderful, and absolutely fabulous Michele Clark, like Mrs. Onion. Clearly, I lurve her. Her prices were beyond reasonable, and they came out beautiful!!

I am having my printed at the store where we bought the invitations. I was going to do them myself but I’m A) insanley overwhelmed! B) sort of a perfectionist and would end up have 4 girls over to help, and then secretly staying up until 5am and redoing them all because they weren’t just right. C)I’m aware that this is my downfall and am skipping right to the step where I send them off to be done and they come back perfecto! :)

I’m printing the envelopes on the computer. What a PITA. But I’m almost done, so there is hope. I choose a pretty font so I think it looks nice.

I agree with Miss T, what a great idea to do both envelopes at the same time. I should’ve done that with my invites and thank you cards!

After a bunch of trial attempts, I made a make shift light table, got out the ink and quill pen, and attempted my own calligraphy. It’s definitely amateur-ish, but was fun to do and I was happy enough with it. how it turned out:

What type of pen did you use? I am going to do mine myself in my best and nicest handwriting. What did you do for straight lines? I was thinking glass table with a lamp under it and then a piece of paper with dark lines… I don’t have a glass table, but my neighbor does - hopefully she has cinnamon rolls too!
**Though I am sure that this will not happen to Miss Pineapple - do not fret if you didn’t do both envelopes at once - I have had 8 people move in between STDs and invites (of 100 invitations). :)

sillyinphilly: I looked at your envelope and LOVE the calligraphy. May I ask exactly what type of pen you used? Did you use any specific template to replicate?

I had thought I’d do them myself, but my fsil stepped in and offered to do not only the save the dates, but the invites too. She’s got absolutely lovely handwriting - not strict calligraphy, but amazingly lovely and decorative. She’s also a perfectionist, so I knew that she’d do them perfectly. As I’m on the perfectionist side myself, I double-checked all of them before sending, but they were all exactly right. Thanks, Jess!!!

thanks k.m. stiles! i got a small crow quill pen from pearl (but any arts and crafts store like micheals, or utrecht would sell one). i don’t remember the exact brand, but it looked similar to this one (minus the ink):

http://pearlpaint.com/shop_details~ocID~59990~parentID~956~categoryID~950~sku~618235.htm

i bought my ink separately from the same store (there are tons of different shades). i didn’t use a template, but just looked at a lot of professional calligraphers’ work first and played around with the pen and ink until i found a style that felt comfortable for me. i’ve always played with handwriting, but this was my first calligraphy-esque attempt. i used the light table to see some dark lines that i drew with a ruler on a separate sheet of paper beneath my envelope ’cause i can’t write straight to save my life. good luck!

Thanks everyone!
@sillyinphilly: I agree! lovely!
@enmoore66: the pens we used were “pilot precise v5,” both jacki and i use them exclusively for everything. As far as straight lines go, i’m not sure how that happened, we just winged it.

I’m going to ask my FMIL to do ours. She has lovely handwriting and it’s a great way to make her feel involved :)
