Cute Cake Toppers

May 2nd, 2008 @ 1:26 pm by Miss Gingerbread

Everyone and their mom loves Ann Wood’s cake toppers. Of course, these bad boys are so hot, she’s not even taking orders since she’s so backlogged. Maybe it’s for the best since this cake topper isn’t really in our budget.

One thing I know is that the generic cake topper isn’t going to work for us.

And while I appreciate that there are cake toppers for two brides, they don’t quite fit us either.

So back to those cute animal cake toppers…I searched the ever popular Etsy for options. Here are some of my favourites.

Cotton Birds Design has these cute little birdies and lots of others in different patterns.

Mykonos has some really cute ones too.

Rainsend also has some cute bird cake toppers.

What are you putting on top of your cake? Do you have any other cute animal themed cake toppers to share?

Good luck with Etsy - I found it this week and it is my new obsession.

My fiance got me a figurine for our 4 year dating anniversary this past January. It is of a man holding a woman. Not until we met to pick a cake did we realized he had actually bought a cake topper!!

So while we weren’t planning on even having a cake topper, it seemed like since we owned one, we might as well use it :)

This site has similar traditional ceramic figurines where you can customize the attire, sex and race

That penguin cake topper is the most adorable thing ever! I have now entered coveting territory and must have that item. Thank you for posting this!

Hi Miss GB! Check here:

http://laurenalane.com/

she does great custom birdie toppers at an affordable price! I know Miss Canary is getting hers from here, and I got an adorable Penguin christmas ornament this past year from her. Her birds are to die for cute, and she can do them to match your hobbies or whatever!

I love the cotton bird cake toppers. I just ordered some and she was so nice to deal with…they should arrive soon. Those are my favorites!

I second Lauren Alane! I stalk her flickr photos - birdies just don’t get any cuter than that, in my opinion! I can’t resist her little owls, their creative names, and the posed photos with captions. They are whimsical and wonderful!

Check out these little polymer guys by Meredith Dittmar. They are so absolutely adorable and she has customized them for a cake topper in the past. http://www.corporatepig.com/myguys/index.htm
This knottie (with a really cool bio) had her “guys” as cake toppers.

Ditto Peng! Lauren Alane is amazing. Her birds have so much personality. I am displaying mine at home until the wedding. :)

Hi Miss Gingerbread!

I got very frustrated by the lack of lesbian cake toppers and also by the heteronormativity of the lesbian cake toppers that are out there. I appreciate vendors who want to serve the gay wedding market, but how many lesbian couples are both going to have long hair, long veils, and poufy dresses?

We also went the animal route - Pamkinstm’s shop on eBay is where I finally fell in love. Pam has both ready-made toppers and she’ll custom make them for almost the same price. Ours are customized, with each of us represented by our favorite animal. She doesn’t do people, but after I sent her pictures of my veil and distinctive necklace, she made my turtle a matching set. She’s quirky and full of enthusiasm, and I am just delighted with the result. I’d be happy to send you pictures if you’d like.

I found these birds at Target for $6.99:

http://lainakay.blogspot.com/2007/03/my-little-chickees.html
(Not my blog, btw)

They’re no longer on the Target website or the Smith & Hawken site (the manufacturer), perhaps because they’re “Eastery,” but I was at my local Target recently and noticed they still have them in stock. They’re great for us because they match our color scheme, but they also look pretty cute side by side, because it’s like they’re about to kiss or nuzzle or some other vomit-inducingly-adorable action.

They’re resin (or something) and relatively light, and my cake baker said there should be no trouble putting them on top of the cake.

The man and I are huge Detroit Tigers fans and my new last name will start with a D. So of course, what better thing to use on top of the cake than the classic Olde English Detroit “D”? We had it custom made, and we love it.

We are huge horse racing fans and even own a small share in a thoroughbred partnership, so it made sense to order this:

Which I sometimes feel funny about or wonder if any of our guests will think it’s odd. But the day is all about what’s important to you, right?

I did wish I had an heirloom topper, though. I’d have loved to use what either of our parents had on their cake, if it still existed.

This past weekend we made our first wedding purchase. For $12.99 we purchased a small ceramic statue of Barneget Light. We climbed this lighthouse on our first date and we stop by several times a year (although we do not climb it often because it always seems to windy when we visit) to admire it. Since our wedding will have a nautical theme we decided this would eb the perfect cake topper for us.

Oh man, the pirate bride and groom birdies are perfect for my fiance and I…we’re blue-water sailors!

Alas, the topper costs $50 more than my entire cake. Don’t think I can justify that.

@Kris: It’s too rich for my blood too, but I does make for nice eye candy.

Our cake toppers were figures of our Nintendo Mii’s
Since we are both gamers… these totally suited us.
These were handmade by Paul Pape Designs.
What is really cute is that the base and hands are magnetic so they “join” when together…. aww.
