Not Chronological, But…

May 2nd, 2008 @ 4:38 pm by Mrs. Tulip

OK, so this is jumping ahead in the wedding-day recap. But I couldn’t resist sharing photos of our beloved Sheltie Ring Bearer!! (Photos, as always, are by Punam Bean.)

(Zoe in the arms of the Sheltie Wrangler — a friend who kept her for the weekend, brought her to the wedding, and pointed her down the aisle when the time came.)

Thanks to suggestions from the Hive, I made Zoe a pearl necklace to pretty her up for the Big Day. It was as easy as stringing some big vintage “pearls” (already in my crafting stash) onto elastic cord and adding a red ribbon to hold the rings. The pearl collar was almost invisible in her fluffy ruff, but the ribbon stood out nicely.

(For anyone who remembers our search for a classic-but-unusual wedding band for Mr. T, we ended up with a “Love” ring from Cartier. Click the photo for a better look.)

I also made Zoe a ribbon leash, out of the wide ribbon from my bouquet handle. I just made a loop at one end the size of Zoe’s neck and a loop at the other end the size of a hand, and then secured the loops with fabric glue.

We didn’t exactly ask permission to have a dog at our ceremony venue, so the Sheltie Wrangler lurked outside till the appropriate moment, then set Zoe loose down the aisle. Zoe was a bit confused by all the people in the audience (she loooves people), but did an admirable job of trotting straight to us.

The hardest part? Untying the ribbon knots! It’s definitely best to be sure any knots are tied loosely, or you can use fake rings on the dog/pillow/etc. and keep the real ones tucked away in a pocket.

Who or what will “bear” your rings?

OMG, I want a sheltie again but my FI says we can’t have one until we get a yard. I can’t wait, and your furbaby is so cute.

She looks like she has such a sweet personality. I was laughing to myself because when you said that she loves people, I could just picture her wanting to stop by every aisle as people “awwed” and said “how cute!” That’s so cute how she’s nestled under your husband as he was trying to get the rings…

what a beautiful dog! that precious face! i’m sure she made your ceremony extra unique and memorable.

i want to use my dog as ring bearer too. but he’s kind of shy so i’m not sure what he’ll do in front of all those people! and we already have a human ring bearer.

i’ll definitely keep your pictures in mind when i’m planning my ceremony. thanks for sharing!

Zoe is too precious for words:) My parents have a Sheltie and I miss living with her! We are going to attempt to use our Vizsla, but he is a bit crazy and will be walked down the aisle on a leash by the FFIL.

OMG - Zoe is sooo adorable! I love the picture of her. You can just see in her eyes the innocence and love. I’d love for my Chloe to be our ring-bearer but seeing as she’s a timid chihuahua, we’re not sure she’d be that happy and as patient as Zoe. BTW - what did you do with her after the ceremony?

Your sheltie is adorable and a great ringbearer.

We are having our nephews, brign the rings. I would love one fo the cats (who would be fine as he is a former frequent host of garden tours and walks on a leash) to do the honors but we are having a wedding 4 hours from home and do not want to stress him out. Now the difficult part will be deciding which of the 4 nephews to carry the rings and which to carry the banner.

Thanks for your sweet comments, everyone! You know nothing touches a mother’s heart more than compliments to her little one… ;)

Vivian — we had a gap of a few hours between the ceremony and reception, and I chose a Sheltie Wrangler who lived close to the ceremony site. So the Wrangler just took Zoe home with her between events. We picked Zoe up the next day after our farewell brunch, which was also in the same area.

The Hotel Monaco, where we stayed, allows pets in rooms, and Mr. T sort of wanted Zoe to stay with us. But I figured we might appreciate ONE night without having to go out for walks!

Don’t have a convenient break and local guest? I’ve also heard of people hiring a local teenager, dog-walker, or boarding facility (basically, anyone who’s not a wedding guest) to take the dog after the ceremony and keep her/him overnight.
