Ummm… Make Me Pretty Please?

May 2nd, 2008 @ 2:30 pm by Mrs. Toucan

I have my hair and makeup trial today. I’m excited, but I’m a little nervous, because this is one area in my wedding planning that I really have NO IDEA of what I want. I know I can’t walk into the salon today and just say, “um… make me pretty, please?” I’m pretty sure she’ll want a little more instruction than that…

I printed out some pictures of hair, but they are ALLLLL over the map. I think I want to wear my hair down or at least mostly down. At the same time, will I feel like my hair is actually “done” if I wear it down? I plan on having the stylist try a couple styles today, so we’ll see…

Is there anything that you’re having a really hard time making a decision on just because you have no idea what you want? Please share!

I had SUCH a hard time deciding on my wedding ring. I found an inspiration ring at Tiffany’s about a year ago and have continued to look at every other variation and style at virtually every store in the metro area (and online). And what did I ultimately pick? A ring identical to the one at Tiffany’s, which I discovered a full year ago.
My advice after all of this is to go with your first instinct — it’s usually right!

Oh, I totally know what you mean by will you feel like your hair is actually “done” if you don’t have it up. I have the same dilemma! But I think I look much better with my hair down…

Also, that’s typically how I wear my hair, so would I want something different on my big day, even if I think it looks better down? Hmmm decisions decisions.

I can’t decide hair up or down either! For all other formal events I’ve always had my hair up because I feel like it looks more “done” and more formal and that’s just what I’ve always been used to doing for formal occasions. Now that I hear about so many people wearing their hair down bc it’s how they typically wear it, I don’t know what to do! I tried to get my FI opinion but he gave me the typical “you will look great either way”, so I’m passing that on to you… No matter which style you choose I am sure you will look great. :)

I have the same issue, and my trial is tomorrow. I have really curly hair and want to take advantage of it, but I wear my hair down every day and also don’t think it would feel special. I have some ideas about a compromise, though - pinned back at the front with crystal pins with the back down and curly, or an updo that is not a tight bun in the back but a controlled mass of my curls. This option is easier for me because my hair is not long, it only reaches just below my chin. I’m pretty nervous about the whole thing in general, though - not the least because lately I’ve been losing a LOT of hair in the shower! I started taking hair vitamins (the good ones are crazy expensive).

You are going to look pretty no matter what! :)

I too felt a little hesitation about having my hair mostly down, but I loved it in the end! I went in that direction because I had been advised to “dress up” the style I normally wear, since that would feel the most comfortable. So, if you normally wear it up in a ponytail — have an updo, if you normally wear it down, wear it down or have it half-up and so on. Since I almost ALWAYS have my hair down, I chose to have a half-up style. I wouldn’t have had it any other way! The “half-up” part definitely made me feel dressed up, and accessories helped too. :)
