In my last engagement photo post I only shared a few of our favorites. You saw a few more in our engagement photo Save-the-Date Cards. But I love so many of our photos that I just have to share some more.
We started our shoot with Nicole Tavenner of Piknik studios midday at Mr. Cherry Pie’s family cabin on Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park. The first photos we took to loosen up were on the front porch of the guest cabin. I look so fresh and Mr. CP looks so cautious!
Then, we walked down to the beach and shot a few sets walking along the pebbled edge of the water, sitting on driftwood, and posing with FFIL Cherry Pie’s canoe. The light was perfect for photos but it was so bright and direct (one of the few smoke-free days!) that I was squinting or closing my eyes in most photos:
After that, we hopped in the car and drove up McDonald Creek to the overlook, where we hopped the fence and climbed all over the rocks, resulting in a series of fantastic pictures. Nicole said she was thrilled that we were willing to pose in unusual places and that we weren’t afraid to get dirty. Being somewhere familiar definitely helped us relax and monkey around.
We headed a little farther up Going to the Sun Road to the Trail of the Cedars, a short boardwalk through a Cedar grove. We headed a little ways in and took a few pictures with the massive trees:
We wanted to head up to Logan Pass to get some shots with the mountains as the sun set, but we were stopped for 20 minutes by construction on our way up Going to the Sun Road. Because traffic wasn’t moving either way as part of a timed delay, we did what we normally couldn’t and got out of the car to look at the view. More photos!

We were getting pretty worn out by this point and the sun was already setting, so we just headed up to the loop where we could turn around, took a few more shots, and headed home to the cabin.
All told, I think we were out and about for four hours. My face hurt from smiling! And we ended up with so many great photos, not just of us together, but some amazing profiles as well:
I really loved the intimacy of our photo shoot, and how I felt like we could embrace in front of the camera without feeling nervous or shy. Now, when I look at our photos, I feel that same sense of closeness with Mr. Cherry Pie.
