First RSVP

May 5th, 2008 @ 10:30 am by Miss Tiramisu

We haven’t sent our invitations yet, but we received our first RSVP today via email:

“Hello soon-to-be-married friends!

Rather than fill out the various cards that I have received requesting I RSVP for your wedding, let this serve as my official response of YES. I’ll be coming, and am excited to attend. If there is some sort of dinner option, my preference is (in order): Steak, Fish, Chicken. I can’t wait to see you and {insert fiance name} tie the knot!

Sincerely,

T. Baxter

PS - Please let me know what you gift card you would prefer as a wedding present- Home Depot, Williams-Sonoma, or Best Buy”

A mass RSVP email from one of Mr. Tiramisu’s friends! We’re all 26 and have officially entered the wedding season of our lives, so I can see his point and we didn’t mind his pre-emptive strike, as Mr. T called it.

I’m sure someone can beat my count of six… are you attending a crazy amount of weddings this summer?

Not including our own, Mr. Jasmine and I are attending six weddings this summer, with only one of them being in our city and one of them being abroad. It’s going to be a crazy summer!

We’re attending 5, I am in the bridal party for two of those. There are three others that, for various scheduling reasons, we won’t be able to attend, so that would have been EIGHT weddings this year. Yeesh!

But I love the personal touch of writing a little note on the tiny RSVP card and mailing it in… I couldn’t bring myself to do what your friend did.

My FI and I are invited to 6 weddings all before our own at the end of September- and all but one of their dates were set after ours!. One we will have to pass on (too far away and too close to our wedding to be feasible).

I really hate having them all close together. If they were spread out we could enjoy them more (lots of mini-vacations and long weekends). Also, since some of the guest lists overlap, we will have a few friends that will have to decide between our wedding and other friends’ weddings. But what can you do?

gji7 says:

Not this year - but several years ago when all my mom’s friends kids were hitting the “right age” - she and I had invitations to 17 weddings and were able to make it to 14 of them. THAT was an insane summer!

Honeydew says:

6 weddings too. Almost the 7th….thank goodness that there was an overlap. It’s like a domino effect…with at least our friends. We put a mass email out to everyone of our engaged friends to make sure there wasn’t an overlap on our date.

i have 5 not including my own. Unfortunately, I had to turn one down b/c I’m in another wedding the same weekend!

skastanos says:

last year we had 6, one I was a BM and one he was a GM, one in Canada, and none in the state we live in. It was a fun, crazy year…and very expensive.

We have only ours this year, yay!

Seven this summer. First was just this pass weekend!

Only one of my friends is married; she got married in 2004. None of my other friends are married. And I’m 28 pushing 29, so it’s not like we’re young. On the other hand, all of the bf’s friends from home (he’s from FL) are married, and he’s 26. I guess my friends and I are contributors to the statistic that New Yorkers get married later!

6 weddings march-august, none of which are in my state. either my husband or i are in the wedding party for 4 of them. it is crazy expensive!

I am getting a little nerveous as my friends and I are all hitting “that age”…. I was the first to set my date in May 2009…. and now I have weddings to attend in Jan, Feb, March, April, and June. I am really hoping that it doesn’t get too much more hectic- as there are a few bridezillas in our group, of which want to know all of the specifics of the surrounding wedding for fear of “overlapping decor” for our “overlapping guests”.

Stephanie says:

We’re attending six before our wedding in August… I’m in the wedding party of one, and my fiance is in two. Our wedding will be the seventh wedding of the season. And we’re missing the eighth, because we won’t make it back from our honeymoon in time.

Maggie says:

Only one so far this year, but I’ve been through several waves as I’m a bit older (32.) Last year I had three– two were local so that made it easier. I think the most I’ve attended in one year has been five or six– it’s been a while since I’ve had that many though.

Maude says:

I’m 26 and NONE of my friends are married or close to it! For most of my BMs, it’s their first time being in a wedding. Also, I’m the first of all 12 of my cousins on my mom’s side to get married - so I’m glad there is not going to be a ton of wedding fatigue among my guests!

tipperella says:

Wow! I can’t imagine having so many weddings in one summer. We have 4 to go to this year (attended the first a couple weeks ago) and I thought that was alot!

Tea says:

for the first time in 5 years i DON’T have a wedding to attend this summer. most of my friends have already tied that knot [the last pair being this past march] so there’s just a few of us stragglers left and though i do think there are a couple of relationships that are ripe for an engagement sometime soon [not including my bf and i]. hmm…i’ll have set up some kind of engagement pool again. so far i’m 2-0!

yes, i’m that kind of friend.

Julianne says:

Only 2 this year (mine included). But 2 summers ago we had EIGHT betweent the months of June and October - 1 in September and 1 in October, so maybe that ties your 6 “summer” weddings. :)

NearlyMsSubrosa says:

I am the first of my friends and this generation of my family to get married so we have only been to a couple of weddings so far… and we’re not going to a single one while we’re engaged :-(

nejireta says:

Most of my friends did it a lil’ backwards. They all had babies first. Only one with child is currently married (and it’s not with the baby’s daddy).
