Love At First Cycle

May 5th, 2008 @ 2:58 pm by Miss Canary

Despite being in wedding crunch time, Mr. Canary and I (along with our MOH) decided to participate in the Five Boro Bike Tour yesterday. It was the first time for all of us and despite the grueling 42 miles, we had a blast!

MOH, Mr. Canary, and me
All bright-eyed and pumped at the starting line up for the tour. We met up at 6:30 AM!

Mr. Canary and me before the last leg of the tour… bracing ourselves for the final stretch– the Verazzano Bridge.

Mr. Canary and I are really passionate about our hobbies (me: art and design; Mr. Canary: music and film). Bicycling is something that we’re both very enthusiastic about. Though we’re not even close to the intermediate level, it’s the one recreational thing that we love to do together. Not that we don’t like doing things together, but usually one of us is more interested in the activity than the other. For example, there could be a really cool exhibition at a museum that I would love to go to and Mr. Canary would come along with me and enjoy it as well, but not be as excited as I would to attend.

The Five Boro also got us really excited for our honeymoon, which of course includes lots of biking (and eating!) It was nice to take a break from our massive wedding to-do list and do something completely non-wedding related instead.

Do you and your significant other have a lot of shared interests or just one? Please share!

Mr. Popcorn and I didn’t share hobbies coming together, but he got me into cycling and we took the bikes on the honeymoon, too.

Wow - 42 miles in one day! I usually manage that in a whole week. :)

On the hobby front, we met tango dancing and have since developed a love for rock climbing. We also share a love of good food (both cooking and eating). Other than that, we mainly have our own interests. Like Miss Canary, we’ll join each other at events, but they aren’t necessarily shared passions.

I second Miss Jasmine! Holy cow!

Miss Pineapple and I are like the Canaries. I am artsy and he’s into sports, we both support each others loves (you should have seen Mr. Pineapple indulging me at the paper store), but the one thing we both really love is exploring new cities.

haha - I just got back from my second mtn biking adventure. Ok so ‘adventure’ might be stretching it - but the first time I went there were lots of tears! I actually had fun tonight!!

So the MR is way more into Mtn Biking. Me I’m a road biker. Which he is learning to love too. So I guess we share a love of cycling :) We both pretty much love the outdoors and athletics but snowboarding is by far both our favs. I enjoy running (he ran a 1/2 marathon with me - but doesn’t love it). He loves to canoe & fish. Which I can enjoy. We are both improving our softball and tennis game together :) I don’t think I’ll ever get him to play soccer with me! We also love Frisbee golf and he’s learning to love some Ultimate.

We both love music - but totally different kinds.

The crafts - totally my hobby. The garden/flowers - totally my hobby :)

BTW - I can not wait to hear about your honeymoon - I wish I knew about such biking trips when we were planning ours. I guarantee we would have done that!

I’m artsy, love nature, and camping is one of my favorite things to do.. he doesn’t appreciate the outdoors like I do, he’s loves to cook and play basketball…. so when he signed us up for the Multiple Sclerosis 150mile Ride, I got excited. We began training in January for the ride that took place this past weekend.. that meant road bikes and all the gear to go with them..
It definitely brought us closer and the experience (soreness and all) was rewarding in so many ways.. next year it will take place after we get back from our HM and I can’t wait!

We love cycling and running together too but also have lots of hobbies not in common. Well done on that 42 miles!
