My Commercial Wedding

May 5th, 2008 @ 12:00 pm by Mrs. Cherry Pie

I don’t want to turn our wedding into some kind of endorsement for Coca-Cola, but found another brand-name something that I just had to have. It’s a hand-painted and weathered replica of an original Coca-Cola sign… I got it at the Fremont Antique Market a few weeks ago!

Right now, the sign is hanging above our coat rack in the back vestibule of our apartment. But really, I got it to bring to the wedding to decorate our table of bottled coca-cola. We can either set it on the table, stand it upright, or hang it if there’s anything nearby to which we can secure it. I’m also open to your suggestions if you have any.

I hope this sign isn’t overkill. Really, it’s the only Coke-related thing besides the actual Coca-Cola that we’re buying. But I showed it some friends and they were like, “Holy commercialized wedding, batman!” Eh. Whatever.

What brand-names are (intentionally or otherwise) inviting to your wedding?

none…but if I had a favorite brand of candy or drink or anything edible…I would probably use it too.

I love Coke! my dentist hates it!

Not really, but Brooklyn Lager (and other Brooklyn Brewery beers) will be served because Brooklyn Lager is critical to the story of how we met :)

I think it’s a great addition. I disagree about it “commercializing” the event. It’s helping with your ambiance.

I think it fits very well with your theme, and many people collect old Coca-cola signs so it’s not weird at all. The only thing I can think of in our wedding is that FI has dropped many hints about a Spider-man groom’s cake!

Of course, if you wanted to, you could go this route.

Heck you already have the tasty beverages and the sign. :)

Seriously though…Coca Cola is such an American icon that it’s a part of our history. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with providing a great rustic detail like this.

We are having a local place provide little bottles of milk for our guests at the end of the night. They will be branded with the name but the cost of having it branded with our wedding isn’t worth it. The point fot he milk is that the wedding is being held on my dad’s dairy farm but has a nautical theme. We want to incorporate things into the wedding related to the farm without making it about the farm and taking away from the nautical aspect of it all.

I love it! We brought into our wedding
KOPPS frozen custard from Milwaukee (where the groom is from) and a Microbrew Beer from St. Augustine Florida where the wedding was. We made sure the little known brands were known by our guests by the end of the night.

I love it too and totally don’t think it is commercializing your wedding. Old signs are awesome.

ALOE!!! When it has soaked in. APPLY MORE!! REPEAT!!! It is honestly your only hope for not peeling, and even that might not work. You need LOTS of moisture to keep it from drying out and hopefully enhance healing. DO NOT put neosporin or anything like that on it. It traps heat and actually makes the burn worse. ALOE!!!!

And from now on - get a daily moisturizer that has some sunscreen in it so you aren’t lobster-ized if you forget you will be in the sun. =)

A weathered Coca-Cola sign is not overkill at all, and plays really well into your rustic elegance theme (plus, it’s reusable as regular house decor, so it’s even kind of green!).

Brands that have infiltrated mine: J.Crew. Scribner’s (using a 60’s-era paperback design of theirs for the programs and favors). Oh, and Paper Source. :-)

I think the sign adds perfectly to the rustic look you are going for. Not overkill at all, in my opinion.

I think you should keep it with the coke bottles to enhance that rather than spreading the branding throughout the wedding by having it somewhere else.

Very cool sign :)
