Wedding Shopping On The Road

May 6th, 2008 @ 12:53 pm by Miss Peacock

I just finished finals, and boy is my brain tired. I think I used it all up studying. I had plans to check some wedding items off of my list, but I just couldn’t make it happen. I was going to get back on track this week, but then Mr. Peacock decided to go to a conference in LA and drag me along with him. It’s hard work being his fiance.

Mr. Peacock travels frequently for work and sometimes I get to tag along. I usually end up with a lot of time on my own while he meets with clients or attends meetings. New York was quite good to me for wedding shopping, as was San Francisco. I tried to do a little while we were in Austin, but South by Southwest was way too much fun for shopping. I am so excited to have a little time to wander around Los Angeles. I have always loved it there.

The chief item on my list is shoes. I totally splurged on these and then regretted it- both for the cost and the color. They were gorgeous and very comfortable, but more brown rather than the bronze color that I was hoping to find.

Back to the store they go! :( But, this means I get to go shoe shopping! :)

I am also looking for some undergarments that will work well with my dress. I want something kind of fun, but comfortable and well-made.

Any LA bees with suggestions for shoe and undie shopping? I would also appreciate any great accessory shops or restaurants. We are staying close to Santa Monica, but I will have a rental car.

Oh, what fun things to shop for! I would go to the Beverly Center and then to Barney’s. Parking is so much easier in LA than other cities, but driving is not always fun. They are close enough to each other that you could do them on the same day.

Check out Fred Segal if you are staying in Santa Monica. Montana Ave. in SM has many shops and options for shoes and lingerie. Also, on Melrose Ave. in West Hollywood you can go to Agent Provocateur (http://www.agentprovocateur.com/) for some very sexy and expensive lingerie. I also agree with Sarahbe about Barney’s and the Beverly Center being good options for general shopping. Nordstrom is a good standby but honestly, pretty boring…

I shop at special stores for my shoes and undergarments, so I can’t really help you out there, but you should definately try Nordstrom’s (both for shoes and undies), DSW has tons of shoes so you should go there. There’s one in the Marina Marketplace in Marina Del Rey (about 2 or 3 miles from SM). The Beverly Center was a good suggestion because there is like a gazillion stores from mid priced to high end, so you should be able to find whatever you need in there.

I will second Barney’s in BH, which is also close to Neiman Marcus and Saks — both have great shoe selections and lingerie as well. Also, in SM, try Montana Avenue, between 7th & 20th street, for some great shops — not all of them what you’re looking for (there are definitely a few shoe stores, not sure about lingerie), but a fun and manageable shopping street to visit. One more in SM is Fred Segal’s on 5th and Broadway - houses a series of stores - shoes and lingerie included.

Oh yea, restaraunts!
Twin Dragon on Pico and La Cienega serves excellent Chinese (Mandarin I think) food, and is very reasonably priced. Versailles is a Cuban restaraunt and the food is wonderful and also very reasonably priced - there is one on Venice Blvd. in Culver City. The one on LaCienega has awful parking. Crustacean in Beverly Hills on Santa Monica has excellent Eurasian food, beautiful decor, pricey menu. I don’t know how long you will be here, but if you want to go there, call ahead. Arnie Morton’s on LaCienega and Ruth’s Chris on Beverly are awesome for steak - both a bit pricey. Lastly, for a good lunch go to Doughboys Bakery on Third. The food is so good, and they have the best Red Velvet cake I have ever tasted. Plus, they’re right around the corner from the Grove/Farmer’s Market on Third and Fairfax, so you can go to the movies, or wander around and shop after you eat. Have fun!

Beverly Center, Melrose Ave…also Trashy Lingerie on La Cienega just past the Beverly Center on the right hand side once you cross Beverly Blvd. Both the Beverly Center should have everything you’re looking for including accessories (especially Melrose Ave for the accessories). The restaurants mlindsey mentioned are also good places to try out but they are a bit pricey.

Definitely hit up Fred Segal, also, all the shops up and down Robertson Blvd in West Hollywood. Check out Trashy Lingerie on LaCienega (it’s not really “trashy”, just fun and less pricey than Provocateur).

Doughboy’s on 3rd Street closed several months ago, but there are a slew of yummy places in close proximity to every area mentioned. Since you are from Chicago, ignore any pizza-related suggestions. For the best sushi ever, go to the Little Tokyo neighborhood in downtown LA. Have Fun!

*oops - I meant to say “Both the Beverly Center and Melrose Ave should have everything you’re looking for….”

I believe there’s another Doughboys on Highland in Hollywood, but I’ve never been to that one. Frederick’s of Hollywood is on Hollywood Blvd. about 4 blocks from Highland….just another option.

Shoe shopping: Try the Chinese Laundry store and the Stuart Weitzman store. I think both of them might be in Beverly Hills but I’m not completely positive.

I second mlindsey - Versaille’s is delicious!

Thank you all for your wonderful suggestions! I am off for undies and shoe shopping tomorrow. I love Agent Provocateur, but it may be out of my price range :( The restaurant suggestions are priceless- I hate wandering around, wondering where to eat! I will definitely report back on what I find.
