Addressing Issues

May 7th, 2008 @ 9:26 am by Mrs. Jasmine

invitation central!

Due to a glitch with our RSVP cards, I found myself pressed for time to send out our invitations. I wasn’t going to have time for calligraphy and the thought of hand-writing all those envelopes made my head explode. I decided labels would be the fastest, easiest, and cheapest solution, although the Emily Post in me hung her head in shame. Oh well– I decided to make them as pretty and elegant as I could and that would just have to be good enough.

I used the popular wrap-around template from Martha Stewart, which somehow manages to elevate an ordinary mailing label into something special.

After filling in the addresses, I printed out the sheets on Pageant Rose paper from Kinkos (thank you for the recommendation Mrs. Lovebug!). Then, I put them through my brand-new Xyron machine.

I’m officially a Xyron addict. I’m frequently embarrassed to be the least-crafty of the Bees, but even someone as clumsy and incompetent as myself can handle the Xyron. Then Mr. Jasmine and I used a craft knife to cut out the labels. Mr. Jasmine gets lots of xoxoxo for his careful, loving handiwork. Surprisingly, it all took much less time than we anticipated.

Since my parents’ return address was already printed on the envelope, we added an ode to our song instead :)

It kind of amuses me that our save the date envelopes were more formal than our wedding ones, but I think it demonstrates how my thought process about the wedding has evolved. I’ve relaxed about the “rules” a lot more and I’m embracing (or at least trying to embrace) a more go with the flow attitude.

How did you address your envelopes?

We used that Martha template too! Yay for xyron! I especially like the contrast of the label band with the envelopes.

Yay for xyron indeed! I almost bought one last weekend, almost. Don’t worry about silly Emily Post, the Martha labels are super cute.

We used white labels b/c I’m 100% sure no one we invited has ever read anything written by Emily Post. ;) Cheers on your go-with-the-flow attitude!

Forget the Xyron or your beautiful invitations. I just wanted to comment on the fact that we have the same couch!

My FSIL offered to hand address everything and did a fabulous job on the save-the-dates and is looking forward to doing the invites (we’re crazy lucky that she’s got mad skills). I did, however, break down and finally order a Xyron… can’t wait to start in on the crafty goodness!

Your invites are beautiful! Even if they are not hand done, they look elegant and clean - tell your inner Emily to pick up her head and be proud of the gorgeous invites!

I used clear labels from Staples. Then I used red colored font with a wispy but readable font. Then I dropped in a design from my DIY invites in the background. I screened it back so it’s in the background and you can still read the words! It looks WAY better than I thought it would look! The program was also super easy to use!

I thought of going with the Martha labels but I didn’t really want to buy a sticker machine cause i didn’t think I’d use it afterwards. I just ordered some wrap around labels from Bella Bella Cotoure Correspondence. http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=11363136

They were beautiful. She designed them to match our invites. Plus I didn’t have to do anything myself.

Ritzy bee blog did a post about them http://ritzybee.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/04/smitten-with-th.html

and so did the DCNearlyweds blog http://www.dcnearlyweds.com/2008/02/bella-bella-beautiful.html

I did the exact same thing except I printed them on white sticker paper made by Avery (at every office supply store). It was so easy and really made the black envelopes pop. People are still commenting about it and the wedding was back in February.

Can someone clue me in to the wonders of the Xyron. Not clear on what it exactly does?

16.
BaghdadBride says:

Msgirard—it’s just a sticker machine but Xyron is the brand name. So basically you can run paper through it and then it has sticky back.
