About Mrs. Flamingo

And Action…

May 7th, 2008 @ 4:47 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

Last night I received a private message from a fabulous weddingbee reader, fadedblue, who said she had found a really great piece that would be perfect for my wedding theme.

Really intrigued, I clicked on the link she sent me and my jaw dropped. WOW… vintage inspired movie projectors. I’m in love and so is Mr. Flamingo.

Small - $79.99 , Big- $99.99 via Potterybarn

Even though this would be totally be a splurge, it would be so nice next to my not so thematic guestbook. I was trying to find ways of making my whole decor more movie-ish without going overboard, so this would be a good choice - right? I can re-use it for decoration in our new home (when we buy our house of course) - it’ll be a great way to remember our wedding. To top this off it’s on sale… now, how could I resist a sale?

Well, after much debating, I finally decided to purchase it. Problem - they don’t ship to Canada. I could always ship it to someone I know it the states, but the billing address must be in the States as well. Maybe if I tried calling them…

Since it’s a final sale, I would love to know if any of you have seen these projectors in person?  I don’t have a Pottery Barn near my house so I can’t check it out for myself.

Did you splurge on something for your wedding? Is it something you re-used?

Could you wire or transfer otherwise money to someone in the states? That way they could just buy it for you and you wouldn’t have to worry about the billing address craziness.

I think they look awesome, and would be a great addition to your already fabulous decorations!

I don’t suppose Pottery Barn in CA carries these? Shopping across borders in so frustrating!!!

My splurge was our flower girl basket. A solid piece of hand-carved burl maple. It was a hundred dollars in a gallery in Oregon in 2005. Right now it’s holding my cloth napkins for our dining room table.

You can do what I have done. Go online and change your address to a friend or family member’s in the states. Then after you ordered and are charged for the item, change it back online. Have it shipped to a friend in the states who is coming to the wedding or who can send it to you. If your bill is about to be sent out you may want to wait until afterwards.
If you sign up for thier e-mail updates Pottery barn often sends you coupons via e-mail which amy make it cheaper.

OMG, those are FABULOUS. I wish I could tell you that I’d seen it in person, but I just have to say OMG I LOVE IT. It is SOOO worth the splurge and would be awesome to decorate with after the wedding!

I love those too! I was thinking about buying them for my apartment, but alas, don’t have the space. :o(

One problem I’ve had with Potterybarn, however, is that their pictures are always deceiving. I have been famous for buying something that I absolutely hadtohave, only to receive it and realize that it was a lot bigger than it looked in the pic online. These don’t look too bad, though. Anyway, I hope it works out for you!! I think it will be amazing for your wedding!! :o)

super cute! these would be great on a guestbook or placecard table. im going to be near a potterbarn on Sat, so if you can wait that long I’ll check them out here in San Francisco and let you know.

I have a pretty extensive vintage camera collection, but ive been splurging and buying more off ebay for the wedding to decorate with and for guests to use. (i have to be ready to say goodbye to whatever i use for the wedding cause it never fails that somethings will get lost, broken or taken)…. vintage camera shopping is def my guilty pleasure!

Oh Miss Flamingo, they are internet catalog only! You will not be able to get an opinion from somebody as to what they look like. I WILL say though, usually the stuff they carry is very nice.
