About Mrs. Toucan

Mr. Toucan and I were talking about how close our wedding is, and how we can’t believe that it’s almost here! I asked him if he was nervous at all. He replied that he was just really, really excited! He said he couldn’t wait to be finished with his actuary exam (which is next week) so that he could finalize our honeymoon plans! It was weird, because after he said that, my first thought was, “oh yeah, that.”

Don’t get me wrong - I’m SUPER excited about our honeymoon, but now that we are getting really close to the wedding, I’m just really, really super excited about that. It’s funny because about 6 months ago, I was more excited about the honeymoon than the actual wedding. Now, I’ve flopped. Maybe, it’s because the wedding is so close, it’s starting to feel… REAL.

Are you more excited for the wedding or the honeymoon?

The honeymoon just magnifies my excitement for the wedding. Like, when I think of the wedding, I’m excited. Very excited. Then I think of how after this amazing, awesome, wonderful, perfect day, we get to go on vacation together for 2 weeks…and it basically just makes me boil over with excitement. YaaaaaaaaY! :)

This post is perfect. My FI and I were just having this conversation last night, and I asked if it was wrong that I was more excited for the honeymoon than the wedding. Don’t get me wrong, I am so excited for our wedding, but 14 days together with nothing to do but be together sounds fantastic to me!

I think I was more excited for “the day after” because we didn’t plan to have our honeymoon right away…I think all the anxiety and stress leading up to the big day, made me more excited to “get it over with”. But in retrospect, I still enjoyed my day and would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

That’s just how I felt. In the beginning I was so excited for the honeymoon, the wedding just seemed like a lot of work.
Now I am so excited for the wedding the honeymoon has taken a back seat. I can’t wait to marry the man of my dreams. Since we already have a 3 yr old and he has older kids, I agreed to no more babies.

But guess what!!! my FI told me last night he wants another baby!!! OH MY GOD! Of course I want another baby!
(ssshhhh, don’t tell anyone!)

Honeymoon, hands down. Neither of us have had a proper vacation in three years, so we’re super-excited that five months from today we’ll be enjoying our second day of relaxing in Acqui Terme, Italy. I’ve been itching to go to Italy ever since I saw The Talented Mr. Ripley, and I’m dying to live out my mid-1950s expat fantasy–well, except for the boat/apartment murders, of course… ;-)

I was more excited for the wedding since I spent so much more time planning for that. I couldn’t believe how little I researched for our honeymoon when it actually came! I think in some cases, guys are more excited for the honeymoon. That was the case for my husband and a really good friend that just got married (he was more excited to go Hawaii than about the wedding - ha!)

Ah - you have an FI studying for an actuary exam in the middle of this Miss Toucan - KUDOS TO YOU AND HIM!!

Fi and I waited until he was done before even ATTEMPTING marriage plans - between your FI and Miss Bubblegum - I am impressed!

At this point in the process (24 days to go) I just really want the beach and a fruity drink in my hand…and to never have to think about all these minute decisions again!

I’m more excited for the wedding, at this point. The H’moon is an afterthought really — probably because it hasn’t required so much of my blood, sweat and tears. And while i”m excited about our destination — Amalfi Coast and Rome, Italy — I have been to Italy before (not the A.Coast) so it’s not a totally unknown experience. My own wedding is though!

@tipperella: I think the amount of planning definitely has something to do with it! Before, I think I had less details figured out, and maybe that’s why I was more excited for the Honeymoon then.

@futuremrs.taj:haha, what can I say! We like to keep busy? We both did “take it easy” this semester. The exam he is taking is one of the “shorter” ones, and I had decided to only take 1 grad class this semester rather than 2! We’ve definitely been busy! Good news, my final in my class is tonight, and his exam is next week - and then it’s all wedding, all the time! ;)

i find myself growing more and more excited for the honeymoon.

i think the honeymoon and the actual ceremony are neck and neck at the moment. (i’ve always thought these two were especially for us)

curiously, i dont care much about the reception. (to me the reception is just a party for the guests thats bleeding me dry like an aortic artery) It will be nice to eat and stuff but I love to get away on vacation…..so i am really looking forward to the honeymoon!

it will be interesting to see if my excitement levels change due to the proximity of my wedding and my daily stress level.

DEFINITELY a toss up! Its hard to say which I’m more excited for…Mr. Peng and I have never been on a vacation for more than 3 days alone together! It will be weird being away from our families for that long!

missm says:

Tough one! It varies… we’ve put WAY more planning into the reception at this point, so all my energy and excitement has been focused on that. Planning for the ceremony itself (at the same site) will come in the next month or so…

That said, like tipperella, more planning on the wedding has definitely overshadowed the honeymoon. Due to the planning needs of the one, we’re doing more of an eco-resort package style vacation somewhere sunny. Not our usual travel style, but the thought of coordinating a two-week trip on top of the wedding almost gave me an anxiety attack! :) So, we’ll be pampered and relax after all that planning and prep.

When I’m stressed about the planning for the wedding, I sometimes think about the time on the beach that will follow!

Abi says:

I’m definitely excited about both….as a girl, you always dream of your wedding day, and we’re working on making it a fun memorable day for us and everyone. But I think the honeymoon will be great - because we will get to be together and relax and just enjoy the beginning of our married life. Since I’m way overloaded and stressed right now - that sounds amazing! That and the fact that we’re both virgins and have committed to waiting until the wedding night to have sex….let’s just say that the closer it gets, the more I’m really excited for the honeymoon! haha

Wow - good luck to your FI on his exam! I’m an actuarial student too and just got lucky that the wedding falls during the year I’m doing the online part of the exam process.

And some days I think I’m more excited for the honeymoon because we’re taking a kick a$$ cruise through the Panama Canal, but then my mom calls because she thought of some other little detail and I just can’t wait to be there in the moment with all my family and friends there!
