Shower Favors For The Young’uns

May 7th, 2008 @ 1:47 pm by Mrs. Penguin

Never one to arrive empty handed when kids are involved, I showed up to my shower fully armed with 15 pounds of candy and some other goodies for the young girls to take home. I actively participate in bribery on a regular basis. What can I say… what I lack in child interaction skills I make up for in buying a lot of candy. The dilemma was that the ages ranged from 2-16, and I didn’t have time to run around town buying individual gifts. Also, if you don’t give everyone the same thing, it might be a little unfair, and I wanted to avoid that too. So here’s what I came up with:

Inside each was a mini photo album, a Lip Smacker in a favor cone, a polka-dot Chinese takeout box full of candy, and some custom “princess” style cards that I made for each girl.

The stationery cards were super easy to make. I had some leftover 8.5×11 Cover Weight paper, so I cut them in half and printed out an image with each girl’s name on the card. They were a big hit, and super quick to make!

Using the same image from the stationery, I printed their names onto sparkly pink paper and taped each to a white gift bag. I added little paper flowers and some pink tisssue and thats about it!

Each bag cost around $7 to make with all the goodies inside. I think the girls loved them!

Did you give out favors at your shower or did you leave it up to the hosts?

Those are so cute! I love the font on the stationary cards. Did you have them hand calligraphered? Is it a special font?

@LaborDayBride: I just used a plain old inkjet printer! I printed them out in Grey, so they look a little fancier than straight black.

The border image is from here, its $5 from istockphoto.com:

@Lillindy: from Istock! See link above

@MM: Not hand calligraphy! Its actually the font “Feel Script,” you can find it here:

You are awesome– officially cool Aunt Pengy :) Even at 26, I would totally love a gift bag like that. Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers is the best :)

Cute gift! I love the cards.

I have offerred to buy the favors for my wedding shower as a thank you to my hosts, and 2 of my 3 hosts (mom and grandma) are so traditional they can’t stop reminding me that I “should not!” have done that! My third host, my sister, totally understands though. Anyway, the idea of receiving a shower is so overwhelming, how can I not try to give back somehow… you obviously understand that. ;)

Are you doing/gifting anything for the kids at the actual wedding? I’m currently brainstorming about that.

@Marie: Yeah, I already had it :( But there are a lot of cool free fonts at dafont.com that you can check out! Perhaps there are similar ones there!

Great favors Miss P! I bought the favors for my two showers and my bachelorette party because I viewed it as my “thank you” for my guests/friends showering me with gifts. I know it can be super expensive to attend a bachelorette party out of state, a shower, and a wedding within months of each other and it was my way of giving a token of thanks….I gave L’occitane gift bags (purchased on sale! that went with my bee theme), designer cookies, and manicure sets.
