When I was little, my parents had an odd assortment of hats, including a communist army cap, an elaborate turban, and the cowboy hat pictured above. The other hats have long-since been sold at yard sales or disintegrated with age but for some reason my folks have hung onto this felt cowboy hat.
It’s sat mostly unused in a closet for the past ten years until I asked my mom for it last weekend. I’m going to give it a new life - in my wedding!
I’m not going to wear the hat for the ceremony or the reception because I really don’t want to take the “Western” element of our wedding over the top, but it will make a great accessory to use in some bride/groom or bridal portraits with the Polebridge Mercantile or Saloon. And I’ll surely break it out for dancing to the bluegrass band.
I just love this hat. I don’t really know its origins or significance and my mom has never shared. I assume it belongs to her because it’s quite small and just barely fits my head. It’s made of a soft felt and is stamped with the company name and “Helena, Montana.” Best of all, it’s a nice shade of light-brushed brown that matches my cowboy boots perfectly.
Here’s the original version of the above PhotoShopped picture so you can see the color:
What do you think? Anyone else thinking of wearing a hat at their wedding or in wedding photos?
