“OM NOM NOM NOM”

May 8th, 2008 @ 5:23 pm by Mrs. Toucan

Even though we asked a friend to bake our wedding cake for us, we didn’t miss out on a cake tasting! Alex, our baker extraordinaire, was gracious enough to bake us FOUR cakes this weekend for us to sample! She had previously emailed a few ideas for cake flavors, we selected a couple, and she made 2 extra for us to try!

Here’s what we sampled:

On small plate: chocolate with hazelnut mousse and marshmallow frosting. On large plate, clockwise starting on the top: Lemon with white chocolate frosting and raspberry filling, Fiddler on the Roof (not sure how to describe this one - it’s a yellow cake with cocoa and sour cream and almond extract) with chocolate marshmallow frosting, and half lemon, half white layered cake with almond butter frosting and raspberry filling.

We saw cake, and were the first ones to the table…

“hmm… which one to eat first?”
(Note the penguin mug I chose- Hi Peng! :) )

After being momentarily mesmerized by all the cake, I looked up at Mr. Toucan, and he’s doing this:

Mr. T looks hungry.

“Guys, hurry up. Mr. Toucan’s about to do a face plant into all the cake!”

Finally, everyone comes to the table, and Mr. T gets his cake and eats it too!

“OM NOM NOM NOM”

Mr. T’s plates on top, mine on bottom.

They were all sooooo good, but can you guess which cakes we liked best?

Looks like fiddler on the roof and the white lemon rasberry ones, since they seem to be almost gone on yours… lol. Mr. T looks like he DID face plant his plate.

Just a note - if you choose a cake with marshmallow filling, be sure to let your vegatarian guests know as they likely don’t eat gelatin. Speaking from experience, I would be very grateful to find this out in advance!!

I’m hungry!
I am having my wedding in my home town - 3,000 miles away, so I am not having any vendor meetings. Crazy huh? This cake meeting is the only one I am envious of.

@Amandaleebest: You are right! :) Those are the two we did pick! oh, and yes, Mr. T DID do a face plant into the cake… I was just busy eating to catch it on camera. ;)
@haliwood: Thanks for the heads up. Surprisingly, I don’t think we have any vegetarians, but I will make note of it on the menu. We plan to have 3 types of cake actually - the 2 we picked that day. Plus a favorite of Mr. Toucan’s… but that’s a secret. ;)
