About Mrs. Hummingbird

Something Blue?

May 8th, 2008 @ 1:02 pm by Mrs. Hummingbird

When it came to our registry, Mr. Hum and I tried to be as practical as possible. We have a small apartment so cluttering it up with every small appliance known to man seemed kind of ridiculous.

However, when we were walking around during Scanapolooza, I saw something that I really loved beyond all reason - the La Creuset Caribbean Blue Whistling Tea Kettle.

Something Blue? : wedding registry toronto Z144329 kettle

Basically I’d be happy owning anything in the La Creuset line because their stuff is so awesome but this kettle was what really caught my eye. On one hand, it’s kind of hard to justify the $90 CDN price tag, but on the other:

1) I drink a ridiculous amount of tea.
2) It’s a well made durable product.
3) It’s blue and shiny! (Yes, I realize this is not the most sturdy line of argument, but look at it! So pretty!)

Anyway, I realize the chances of someone actually purchasing this from the registry are slim, but I figured if there was even a chance that I would get to have it, I might as well throw it on there.

51 days left Bluey*! Will you be mine? I guess we will have to wait and see . . .

I know I can’t be the only one coveting something on their registry, so I’m opening it up to the hive. Is there anything on your registry that you really love? What was your secret little indulgence? Tell me about it.

* Yes, I named my as-yet-unpurchased kettle. I’m weird like that.

I love it!!!! Since blue is my favorite color, I am all about this tea kettle.

We are secretly longing for a set of Wuesthof Gourmet Knives. We’ve actually registered at three places just insure that we get a set. Devilish, I know!

Maybe if people buy you things that you didn’t register for and you don’t really want/need, you can return them and get the tea kettle for free or at least some money off?? My registry splurge is a set of placemats from Williams-Sonoma. They aren’t that expensive, but I still don’t think anybody will get them for us. :(

my calphalon cookware. I cook a TOOOOOON, and have wanted new cookware for a gagillion years. SO yeah, the cookware.

I already have a kitchen aide mixer, which seems to be many brides covetous (is that a word?) item. :)

A Dyson. My FI was a little perturbed that I put it on there and wanted me to take it off, but I’m going to conveniently ‘forget’ in case someone is a generous gifter. I know he secretly wants one too, he just doesn’t want people to think we’re selfish. As you can tell, I am past that and look at it as a possibility for multiple people to go in on a gift. :o)

I’m a cooking fiend so I’ve been coveting copper cookware for years. Expensive as heck but that’s what I registered for! I’m doubtful that any of them will get purchased but if you don’t ask for what you what, you’ll get things that won’t be used.

A cotton candy machine. We have no room for it and I don’t have dental insurance but I really wanted to register for it.

My registry splurge was in the same vain as yours… but a little more extreme. I’ve been coveting a 6 piece Le Cruset set in Dune and after some reassurance from my future husband- added it to our list. I figure if no one buys it for us (which they probably won’t) we’ll at least get a completion discount after the wedding date and maybe I’ll treat myself and just buy it. I deserve it after all this wedding planning.

Such a pretty teakettle - I really hope you get cute lil’ Bluey!

As far as our registry “splurges”, the one little neat thing that we really really want is one of those backpack picnic “baskets” and the completely frivilous one is a Wii (which I don’t think we’ll get, unless our friends decide to indulge us) :D

Aside from the typical registry splurge items — stand mixer, china, etc — my more odd indulgence was an $80 rolling pin. Yes, $80 for a rolling pin. Why, you ask? Because it’s made of carrera marble — which makes it far superior to any other rolling pin in terms of weight and holding a cool temperature for rolling out pastry. Will any of my guests know this? Probably not. Will they all wonder why we have an $80 rolling pin on the registry? Most certainly.

I really really really really really really want the knife set we registered for. My knives are like 9 years old and were bought at the grocery store… so yeah… they bearly cut butter… They are expensive… I really need them though…if someone gets them for us, I’ll be VERY appreciative.

I was so surprised that people got us our “slurges”- and no one batted an eyelash (and we aren’t a big registry family).
I am a HUGE tea drinker, and registered for a kettle that was really quite dear, and it was the first gift we received. I think of my aunt (who bought it for us) every morning (and afternoon) when I use it. But I didn’t know they made them in blue :(

an xbox 360 and rock band. it’s mostly on there so we can get the completion discount but i’m secretly hoping that a group of friends will be “selfish” and pool their money so we can all play.
i’m a dork.

(oh, and miss candy corn–i have that monkey veggie peeler and it is FABULOUS.)

Miss Hummingbird, I think you’ll be surprised — I think someone will definitely buy that for you all from your registry. I would! It’s adorable . . . and given what china and everything costs, it doesn’t seem too out of line. :)

Here is a tip - stores like Home Goods and TJ Maxx get Le Creuset products in.
Also, if you love tea, which I do, get an electric kettle… its the best
