About Mrs. Tiramisu

Anonymous Blogging?

May 9th, 2008 @ 3:13 pm by Mrs. Tiramisu

I’m off to Philly for the weekend for my MOH Carolyn’s wedding (eeeeeeeeeeeeee! I’m so excited! And let’s get some collective fingers-crossing that the weather holds out for her!). But first, this has been on my mind and I’m wondering if I’m the only one…

I started reading weddingbee sometime last summer, but didn’t get up the nerve to apply to be a bee until this past winter. Part of the reason was that I was a little scared of all you crazy strangers out there reading about my personal stuff. :) Mr. Tiramisu was a little concerned too, and I still don’t think he’s totally psyched about all the pictures I post of him. (And I’m about to post another- ha!). But I’m sort of over it now, and I lurrrrve being a bee, so it’s worth it to lose a little of the wedding secrecy. (And all you crazy strangers have turned out to be awesome in the advice and support department!)

Here you go Mr. Tiramisu- a totally incognito picture of you:

Mr. Tiramisu in disguise as Mr. Penguin (and Peng, now I challenge you to produce a picture of Mr. Peng disguised as a tiramisu)

I was happily surprised to be contacted by a few people who know me and saw my posts just by chance (Hi Cassie!). A couple of my college friends who I haven’t talked to in years, and a girl from my hometown recognized me and wrote to say hi. I’m telling you, weddingbee is everywhere! (Like seriously everywhere- look: countries represented). There are readers in countries I can’t even pronounce. I dutifully blur out my personal info from my invitation posts and refrain from using our last names, but the truth is, our info is sort of out there for all to see.

So come out come out wherever you are… do you know one of the bees in “real life”? And am I the only blogger out there who worries a little bit about anonymity?

aw you’re coming to my hometown! You best enjoy some cheesesteak while you’re here :) Unless you’re a vegan or vegetarian, in which case you should enjoy lots of greasy fries instead!

I don’t know any bees in real life but I have seen a new husband of a bee at my local grocery store a few times! :)

I’ve been blogging since 2000 mostly under my real name, which is all across the Internet for alllll sorts of weird things. I never worried too much because I wasn’t “blogging provocatively.” And I was always careful meeting someone who contacted by via my blog. But blogging NON-anonymously has gotten me countless jobs, including my current career, either through reader impressions or the friendships I’ve formed.

There are a few weirdos out there, to be sure, but with all the information that’s out there today (Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIN) I think that more and more people are choosing networking over anonymity, which makes it safer for the “herd.”

why am i imagining a photo of Mr. Pengy with a piece of Tiramisu on his head (or something equally ridiculous)?

(though honestly, I don’t recall what Mr. Pengy looks like, so I’m imagining my own Mr. luna and it’s rather an amusing mental picture :D )

Oohooh, where is the wedding? Perhaps Miss Candy Corn and I can come stalk you? :-)

I have had one person from high school recognize me on the WB, and it turned out that you and I have a mutual acquaintance, Miss Tiramisu (whom I emailed you about a while ago!). Otherwise a lot of my friends don’t actually know that I blog here, because I want a lot of the wedding details to be a surprise for our guests! :-)

It’s raining in Philly today, but it’s supposed to taper off this evening and be partly sunny tomorrow with temps in the mid 60’s. Rain again on Sunday….

Miss Cupcake: I met with Jenn yesterday and I plan on booking her next week! Thanks for the referral!

While I don’t know her personally, given our lines of work (I’m in PR at a state agency in GA) I am willing to bet that Mrs. Magnolia and I know some of the same people.

@Miss Cupcake:
I had sworn I saw you at Macy’s at the King of Prussia mall like a month ago when I was there shopping with my mom to help her find a dress for our wedding, and I was like “MOM! I think that was Ms. Cupcake!” but then I was like, nahhh it’s probably not her, just one of her impersonators! My mom was just like “What’s a Ms. Cupcake?” haha

This is really funny. I’m still waiting for someone to recognize me at weddingbee, but I did connect with someone I went to high school with (although I didn’t know her then) over at indiebride.

I live in Boston and just last night I was walking over to the Celtics game when I passed a person that I am 99% sure was Mr. Toucan. I immediately thought OM NOM NOM NOM! I didn’t want to frighten him so I just kept on my way.

@Mrs. Lovebug: Yup! I’ve seen him at the Basha’s at Sunrise and Kolb a few times (I totally feel like a stalker)! I swear I saw him the Monday after your wedding buying sugar. I said to my Fi “weird he’s buying sugar, he’s getting on a plane to go to Ireland in 5 hours”. Okay, see I am officially a stalker!

For as long as I can remember, Miss Penguin has been like an adopted little sister to me (she and my sister have been best friends since childhood). But over the last 6 months, I’ve gotten to know her in a different way as we plan our weddings in the same year - and I can now say that she is one of my very best friends too.
And on a separate note, I was walking down Clement Street in SF a while back, and this dude looked awfully famililar… and then it hit me - Miss CB had posted her engagement pics that week! I almost said hi, and then I realized I would most likely scare poor Mr. CB. :)

I have been lucky enough over the past year to call Miss Penguin a friend. And due to our locale, Mrs Lemon is also a friend. I “know” Miss CreamPuff through our local knot board and I hope to meet her someday too.

I’ve met CB and Pengy ! They are super sweet ! =) and Mrs. Eggplant lives in my neighborhood. I’ll probably run into Miss. Cream puff on a trip to Paper Source at some point too LOL. Everyone I’ve met online has been really nice… I’m not too worried about sharing things, although I take some precautions.

JenniferB: ahahaha, too funny. That’s him! We live a minute away from that Basha’s. And the sugar was for me, so I could have my absolutely necessary daily cup of tea before we left. SUCH a small town. :)

i work in the city so i always think i see one of the bees walking around but i kind of suck at recgonizing people [my rate of recognition is very random] so i always convince myself that it wasn’t them. lol.

i’ve been blogging for about 4 years now and while i do post pictures and stuff, i edit what i talk about. sure i mention the city i live in on occasion but i don’t surrender too much personal information [like where i work or live, etc]. also at my bf’s request, i also don’t write about what i plan to do, as in i’m going to such and such place after work just in case. i take whatever precautions necessary so i’m not worried. though i did meet a wb reader who stumbled on my blog from my comments here at a friend’s party once. that was pretty awesome.

Someone came up to me while we were waiting in line for the Martha Stewart Weddings show and asked me if I was Miss Peacock. It totally made my day! I don’t worry about the personal stuff too much. I am mostly somewhat careful because other people tell me that I should be :)

I dont know if Bees are open to list off all the Bees that we’ve met in real life, but I’m so lucky to know them, and cant wait to meet more!

Lemon! Cherryblossom! Eggplant! Gummibear! Creampuff! Daffodil! Tomato! Plumeria!

The lamest thing about having long distance online friends is not being able to meet them. There are so many more bees and bee readers that I feel like are really great friends of mine, despite not having ever met them. I shall win the lotto one day however and change all that.

@Jenny Louwheeze: AWWWWWWW

@Michelle: AWWWWWWW

@Cara: AWWWWWW

Man. I get around.

I didn’t know any of the bees before becoming one (unless you count the fact that I had read all-of-the-bees-prior-to-my-becoming-a-bee’s posts). But I am tickled to say that I now count the bees as some of my good friends. It is an honor to be able to write with other intelligent, witty women and be considered a part of that team.

That said, to answer the other question. I used to be really fine about what I put on the Internet. I had a personal blog and while it wasn’t read by more than 15-20 people regularly, it was a creative outlet for me. Sadly, I used everyday examples from my work and my life in my blog. Although my personal blog was completely anonymous, my first name (and more importantly) my picture had been on Weddingbee. When work found my personal blog through Weddingbee…well, we all know how that turned out.

The funniest thing is that with my new business, my name, my email, my phone number, EVERYTHING is on the Internet because the Internet is my ’store’. But I don’t keep my personal blog anymore; just a blog that highlights some interesting things about my business. Thankfully, no one at my ‘new company’ (ya’ know…the one where I am the boss) will fire me for blogging. But in the end, I have to be very careful that nothing I say or do jeopardizes Mr Corn’s career. So while it hurts like heck to give up my creative vice, I have to remind myself that as soon as I got married, I was no longer living just for myself.

Moral of the story…it’s good to be cautious; but in the end, there is only so much you can do if people are bound and determined to find your flaws.

On a lighter note, I did get recognised by a stranger once….but it didn’t really count because she works with Mr Bee and I was in their office. Still…I felt like a celeb all day! :)

PS - Lovebug, you have no idea how much I needed that chat, too :)

I was once *convinced* I saw Miss Penguin at my store… in New York City. Haha. I went up to my coworker and was like, what did she say her name was? IT WAS CATHY. True story. Then I realized, um, she does not reside on this coast of the US. So FYI, there is a hot asian pengy look alike with a white fiance running around nyc! (Hmmm… hows that for a non pc post?)

i’m a day late here….but this is sooo relevant.

i keep a personal blog (and have since started a wedding blog) and it took me a year to post a pic of myself. I am very vague on all kinds of identifying details, yet go into incredible detail about some of my deepest thoughts and feelings.

so strange! random strangers know more about me than many people in my real life, yet they dont even know my first name, lol……..
