Au Naturale

May 9th, 2008 @ 2:40 pm by Miss Flamingo

If there is one thing I am comfortable with, it’s going braless. I’m not afraid to say it - I like my boobs and letting them free once in a while has never hurt anyone.

When I tried on my dress I went au naturel and it fit perfectly - little or no alterations needed to be done. I know it’s pretty to have the matchy matchy undergarments, but I will be much more comfortable with no bra.

That being said, is anyone else going all natural for the big day?

I did and it was fantastic! I did use petals to cover my *ahem in case it got cold…but it was fantastic. It turned out to be so warm with me running around like a mad woman, I was glad not to have anything else “holding me down”! =)

Jenniferb says:

My girls are big and they liked to be contained. But my dress has a built in corset (love it) and the seamstress said for a sleeker line NOT to wear a bra. This goes against every core of my being! But, maybe….

hubandwif says:

Ah! Me too! Everyone keeps telling me to go get a pretty bra….but personally I like my chickens free range, if you know what I mean. Especially since I have the same situation, that my dress fits perfectly without one…and with all the fittedness and boning and fluff and stuff I think everything will stay covered…(Actually I think I’d probably have to work REALLY hard to get one of my boobs to pop out of my dress, even though its strapless…)

bbb says:

I didn’t wear one, as my dress fit perfectly and had some cups sewn in. I also just wore a regular thong-style pair of undies…no other constrictive undergarments. It felt so great to be comfortable.

Jenniferb, I’m the same way. I never, EVER go braless but since I have a corset dress, it holds ‘em in. I’m going back and forth though, because the dress bends out a wee bit in front, and I’m afraid if I do go braless and someone leans in for a hug, they might see a bit more than they bargained for…

I could have, and considered it (my dress was very structured), but I realized I’d be changing my dress in front of people a few times, and just wasn’t a fan of doing that topless. I ended up using a NuBra Featherlite, more for coverage than anything else.

ME, too! I’m so relieved to read that other people are doing this! I don’t go braless in my everyday life (not comfortable with DDs) but in trying on wedding gowns, I found that I was more comfortable (and looked better) without!

But I’m just curious, is anyone else a size C or above planning on doing this? Because when I’m trying on gowns, I’m not wearing them and dancing in them all night. So I’m not 100% sure this would be a good idea. :)

I guess I’m going without as well, though I never considered it that way, since I got cups sewn into my bodice (2 pairs, actually, since the bodice has a shape of its own… nothing makes you feel inadequate up top like needing two pairs of cups…!) I’m pretty well-contained but I guess I should think about petals or something just IN CASE of a random malfunction…

@akimbo: FYI - Might as well spill the beans at this point… Im a C ;) and Im going braless. My dress is very snug so not boobs coming out… well at least i dont think so

OMG, if I could’ve went without one I would have.

Melanie says:

I am rockin a set of DD’s myself and I thought there would be no way I could go without, but I did and I am so glad. My dress had a lace-up bodice, so that helped considerably. All in all, it was much easier than trying to find a low backed/strapless/sweetheart bra that would have worked. Kudos to you - let those babies free!

'zilla says:

if your knockers are bigger, wear a bra! I didn’t at the suggestion of my seamstress and regretted it! I pulled up my strapless all night long! If you can go au naturale, get the tape, it’ll help, I ended up being allergic to it and took it off before I started getting too red!

Christine says:

I’m going without one! Me and my tiny boobies are just going to hide (and try to look bigger) behind some sewn-in cups.

cj says:

I did because my dress was nearly backless so there was really no way I could. Luckily, I am a smaller gal so support wasn’t an issue.

I’m going without! My dress has a corset back and I am very happy with my 32 D’s!

I tested this out at my final fitting, and though it looked fine while I was standing, it didn’t work well when sitting, dancing, leaning. Just a NOTE: make sure to try different positions while at your ftting. GL!

Leticia says:

i might be since my dress fits better without one.

i feel like it’s too tight with one on, but perfect without one.

i didn’t think it would have made such a difference but it does.

Mrs Popcorn says:

I’m the opposite. I go au naturale on a regular basis, but usually wear a bra for formal wear and did so for my wedding.

I am!! Just had cups sewn in and it fits perfectly!

Michelle says:

My dress will have some built in cups so there is no ..ummm… color coming through… or temperature discrepancies! I was just going to go pasty style, but the seamstress chicka said that with my off the shoulder neckline the built in cups would keep “the girls” up just enough to be a tad sexy, and make sure they didn’t come out to say hi while dancing! I said - ok - cups it is! B/c i plan on dancing like a fool!

KatyStardust says:

Supposedly my dress will have the support built into it - so yes, I’ll be going boob commando on my big day.

missm says:

Me too! My dress has a fairly structured bodice, so no chance of any peepage or headlights. My b-cup self doesn’t need further support than the dress provides, though we’ll see once the alterations are finished if I want to try some petals, jus tin case.

Jen - great time on trying it out in different positions… I’ll definitely do that at the fitting!

Funny story about this one.

So my dress is pretty sheer–I’m going to rock the SPANX underneath so no one sees my naughty bits and to hold me in a bit, but there’s no way I can wear a conventional bra. The last time I visited all of the parents (the FI and I hail from homes barely 15 minutes apart) my mom started harping on me getting my “underwear,” so I popped into the local JoAnn’s to see what my options were. Grabbed one of those strips you slap over your ladies, as well as the “petals” mentioned above, all for about 7 bucks. But there’s a little more to the story than that.

You see, I was running late to the FI’s house for dinner, and I called him to let him know. He asked where I was, I mentioned it to him, and he demands to know what I’m buying there (because he knows it’s wedding-related, and at that point we were both pretty annoyed with anything wedding related). But you see, there’s this middle-aged man waiting in line in front of me, so I can’t be saying things like “I’m buying breast petals!” so I hurriedly got him off the phone, paid, and then explained once I got to the house. I have yet to try them on…we’ll see how that works out.

A good friend of mine when bra-less @ her wedding and ended up not being able to dance b/c of slipage issues :( I would just be extra sure they girls will stay in b/c I would hate for you to miss out too :)

Michelle says:

My dress has a corset back so there is no reason for me to wear a bra. That bad boy isn’t slipping at all.

perfect bound says:

i just read an interview where the designer said your dress should fit like a glove and nothing (nothing!) should be needed underneath.

Megan says:

I’m a D, went braless because the dress fit better that way, and danced all night with no problems at all. It was great.

28.
hwong14 says:

Definitely. I go braless in strapless dresses (or dresses with enough support) whenever I can. I hate strapless bras (that’s part of the reason), and I love being able to go braless on those occasions!

29.
Dana says:

I am, but then again there I don’t have much need of support ;)

Miss Peacock says:

I need a little boost in my dress! I am much more comfortable in a bra, even though mine aren’t that… heavy. I used to hate bras when I was in high school/college, but then I found a good one and I am obsessed with it :)

Mollie says:

I’m among those who wouldn’t dream of going braless on any other day (I’m out there buying not-sold-in-stores sizes). FWIW, I also wouldn’t dream of wearing a strapless dress, with or without a bra; not gonna happen. So I was lucky enough to find a fabulous gown with shoulder straps, and I figured my next task would be to find a bra with narrow straps to hide under them. I wasn’t sure what this would mean — would I have to take the dress to the lingerie store? Lots of trial and error? So I was dreading it… And then the seamstress who hemmed the dress for me said, “Try it without a bra,” and she was totally right, and I could have kissed her, that’s how excited I was. I think I filled out the bodice a little more than the designer intended, but the girls have never looked better, and I was happy and comfortable all day long. Toward the end of the reception, a similarly well endowed friend commented, “Your bra is doing a great job!” And I was probably a little too thrilled to announce, “I’m not wearing one!!”

Anyway. In my case it was a GREAT move. But a lot depends on how supportive and structured your dress is, and how well it fits you! There were several thick layers of fabric between my skin and the outside world, so I wasn’t worried about showing too much… and the straps on the dress were key. Oh, and I wore a little jacket during the mass, because I felt weird about showing cleavage in the church. So use common sense.

I’m a C, went without because there was none that would work and I wasn’t about to stand around in tropical heat with one of those stick-on bras. I was very comfortable!

mrswhitetobe says:

my dress has cups sewn in. it’s so nice to not have the extra pinching, constricting strap of a strapless bra. my seamstress sewed in an extra elastic band inside to go around my waist, to keep the dress up where it should be (it’s heavy because of beading). i’m hoping for no slippage issues.

i’m getting married today, in four hours! (eeks!) and i’m going braless. :) my dress has boning in it, and i figured eh, i’m young, they’re small. let’s be free. :)
