About Mrs. Cherry Pie

I’ve found a lot of photos of wedding bouquets that I absolutely love, but none so far have been the spitting image of what I want. Some of the bouquets I’ve been collecting are the right color, some are the right shape, and some have really fun textures from berries, grasses, and leaves. My favorites are the three in the center of this collage (Which I managed to assemble a few weeks ago without saving any sources… ARGH!):

I’d like my bouquet to play on our color palette (chocolate brown, burgundy, and sunflower yellow), possibly with some bright highlights in the red-orange-yellow spectrum. I’m imagining something mid-sized that will fit in my freakishly small hands and be easy to hold but large enough to make for some super photos. I want a more dynamic shape rather than a round, manicured bouquet. I think I’m going for that “fresh-picked” look; a little wild and less refined.

As for components? Well, they have to follow my rules for flowers, which means no roses, lots of colorful daisies, probably dahlias and chrysanthemums, and whatever wild grasses we can find for accents.

Have you seen any bouquets that fit the bill? What would you recommend for a September wedding?

I really love the idea of incorporating wheat into your bouqet, especially in Sept. The top row second from left is my fav for you, wheat and lots of different flowers will add to your ‘just picked’ idea, especially with sunflowers and daisies.

not a bouquet, but these dahlias are red and yellow!

simple and stunning.

Any idea what the native flowers are around your venue? Maybe your florist knows? That might be a fun place to look for “filler flowers”…

You don’t say whether you’ve sat down with your florist yet, but I think you probably should! The photos you have, the idea of the types and colors of flowers, and the general idea of the bouquet should be enough. I am also going for a less structured bouquet - more like a garden then an arrangement, I told the florist - and she pulled out several photos of exactly the look I want. The florist will also have books of flowers, organized by color, that provide photos of all the types and colors of flowers that will be available the month of your wedding. So the two of you can easily pick out the flowers and fillers you like. It’s not necessary at all to have a photo of “the bouquet” as long as you have some pretty well-formed ideas of what you want, which you do.

I found this one: http://www.ccfc.org/wild_beauty.html

I’m not sure if that fits, but I think it’s great!

I definitely love the first green kermit (or button?) mums with the dahlias. (of the middle three, the one on the left)

This is just to show some colors and texture (gorgeous red dahlia with yellow and orangey-red roses)

There’s a crazy post out there regarding AA dahlias (read: HUGE). I’m not thinking this for a bouquet, but maybe as decorations (like pomanders but a heck of a lot less labor-intensive).

Here is a link, check out the 10, 11 and 12 ones down. Some of them have roses, but I think the colors are gorgeous and would be beautiful for a fall wedding. Oh and the 4th up from the bottom. Good luck!

I saw a bouquet on a calendar that reminded me of you, Miss Cherry Pie! It had these yellow flowers that looked like button mums (do they come in yellow?), paired with echinacea flower with all the petals pulled off. It looked great, elegant and rustic and natural. I don’t have a link to post to the bouquet but here’s a closeup of the center of an echinacea bloom. http://www.flora-photography.co.uk/images/Echinacea-purpurea-Robert-Bloom.jpg I think they’d be a wonderful accent to other floral elements in a “freshly picked” bouquet!

I can’t help with the flower choices, as I’m struggling with the same thing myself. What I can help with is sourcing two of your photos in the collage, as I’d clipped them as well. The top right and bottom left are both from weddingbee’s very own Mrs. Lime. See here:

I’m looking forward to seeing what you choose!
