Alterations with Anahit, Part II

May 12th, 2008 @ 6:35 pm by Mrs. Toucan

On Saturday, I had my second fitting with Anahit, and let me tell you - the lady worked wonders. The alterations that my dress needed was definitely no easy task. The hem needed to be taken up 3 inches. The neckline was changed to a less severe sweetheart neckline, and the bust needed to be taken in a few inches. The back zipper needed to be taken in 4 inches. And because of the 4 inches that she needed to take from the back, she needed to replace some of the ripple-y ruffles (…technical term you know ;) ) that I lost in the back. Yup, all that in a few weeks, and it came out FABULOUS.

****Mr. Toucan, you can stop here****

TA-DA!!! The almost finished product!

It fits!

Anahit got it almost perfect after the first fitting. All that’s left to do is add in the cups, and a slight alteration in the underarms!

Since I’ve noticed a few questions on the boards about bustling mermaid and trumpet gowns, I’ll talk a little bit about mine. :)

The bustle is a 3-point French bustle. I really wish I was able to take pictures of how the bustle works, but that probably would have required more flexibility than a normal person should have… Anyway, it basically works like this: there are 3 sets of numbered ribbons underneath the skirt part of the my dress. You simply match the numbered ribbons and tie them together so that the bottom ribbon pulls up the bottom part of the dress toward the top. After all the sets of ribbons are tied, fluff the dress for the “whipped cream” look. And voila! The bustle!

I couldn’t be happier with how things turned out with the dress, and it’s a good thing I don’t have it yet! I probably would try it on over and over again 23948230572 different times!

Wow, that is a seriously awesome dress!

I also had to have a lot of fabric taken out of my dress (I bought a sample). I was amazed by how well it looked afterwards - it didn’t look trimmed down or anything. Something like that is definitely best left to the pros!

What an amazing job she did. It looks fantastic on you. The bustle is beautiful too. Thankfully I live in the Boston area so I can use her! Thanks for the recommendation.

Woo! That’s a sexy back! Love it!
The French bustle looks WAY more complicated than it sounds - but that’s always a good thing!

It’s really beautiful! I’m so glad you decided to get this at the last minute, it’s so much more ‘wow’ than your first gown.

Can’t wait to see you in it on your wedding day!

That is such a gorgeous gown. Who’s it by? And the alterations are amazingly perfect. My kudos to her.

Thanks ladies for the compliments! :)
@Miss Penguin and @pinky: I’m so happy that I went with my gut and switched dresses at the last minute too. This dress really does suit me so much better. :)

@Dina: The dress is by Tara Keely. :)

Gorgeous! Is Anahit the seamstress for Vows? I’m thinking of getting my dress there, so I’ll be sure to look for her. Please post pics of the front too — the back is beautiful. And what did you decide to do with your other dress?

@Jellyby: Anahit has her own business, however VOWS refers to her as “their seamstress,” as they always refer customers to her. As for the other dress, I plan to sell it. I wanted to wait and see how the alterations went with this one… just in case. I’ll probably post ads for the old dress soon - when I get the chance. :)

@Jellyby: oh, and I probably should mention that Anahit’s place is across the street from VOWS.

@Jellyby, MissBlueBear, and Christine: You can see the front of the dress in the reflection of the mirror! I purposely didn’t want to show too many pictures of me in the dress yet. You’ll see it after the wedding is over :)

@Christine: I sent you an email.
