Local Boards

May 12th, 2008 @ 9:43 pm by Mr. Bee

There have been a bunch of popular board posts recently about local brides:

So we took the hint, and BIL Bee added Local Boards to Weddingbee!  :-) Now you can post into any one of roughly 30 metro areas in the US and Canada:

We added some cities last night, and a bunch more today.  A bunch of brides have already created posts in their own cities!  You can see a clickable version of the map above on the right side of the boards page.

If you don’t see your city or metro area on the list, please request a city here!

Please let us know what you think!

Hi,

Great idea, but I’ve tried to register twice so I can post on the boards, and I’m not getting a password … ?

Thanks.

This is great. The only thing is that the local messages appear in the main board index too–it seems like it would be more useful if they were treated as separate boards. When I’m looking at the general board, I’m more interested in seeing the general topics and not city specific topics. Perhaps this is just a bug since it’s not what I would have expected to happen.

this rules! you guys are the best :)

i second yiska’s suggestion, though… if that is a possibility. it does make the main “boards” page a little more confusing.

I third that. I would like to see the city posts separately, like the NWR posts. Otherwise, a nice addition!

Ah yah, that’s something we wrestled with.

The concern was: if we hide local boards from the main page, they will get very few comments and people won’t want to post to them. That’s what’s happened to the NWR boards.

Also - if you’d prefer to see non city-specific posts only, the hope was that readers could use the beehive only link?

I would also prefer the Local Boards to appear in a totally different area. I absolutely love the idea but it’s really hard to wade through all of the local boards on the main message board. Perhaps - and this is coming from a totally non-web-design-savvy person, could you at the top of each board make links to the other boards more visible? Something like “The Hive”, “Non-Wedding-Related” & “Local Boards” so that they aren’t in a drop-down? Maybe make those tabs within the “Boards” tab on each of the board pages?

Hmm so you’d like a link to the Beehive more prominent on the boards page?
