Regular Playlist, Regular Bride

May 12th, 2008 @ 11:24 am by Mrs. Penguin

To the shame and embarrassment of some of my “cultured” friends, I’m ridiculously into Top 40 music.  If Ryan Seacrest likes it, so do I.  It took the power of 10 horses for me not to add Miley Cyrus to my wedding playlist.  I think my bridesmaid Jess would vomit all over my white dress.

There. I said it. I love Miley Cyrus. Don’t hate.

That being said, I spent the last two days compiling a “Regular Playlist for a Regular Bride,” and I hope some of you will be able to benefit from it. I separated the songs into categories, Beginning with “key songs”, then cocktail/dinner songs, and finally, reception songs divided by tempo. It’s about 7 hours worth of music!

Key Songs:

w144401

mother/son dance song TBA (Yeah, that’s right Mr. Penguin, get on it).

Cocktail Hour/Dinner Songs:

w14440101

Reception - Uptempo:

w14440102

Reception - Midtempo:

w14440103

Reception - Slow:

w14440104

I love Top 40 music! All our friends make fun of me because I love it so much :) My iTunes list is full of Britney, old school MJ, Madonna, Janet Jackson, etc. Your wedding playlist is awesome– if I wasn’t also getting married that day, I would totally crash your wedding ;)

HAHA. Yes. Top 40s all the way and I am not ashamed! Mr. C and I argued over having Journey on our play list. He thinks that it will fill the floor whereas I think it’ll clear the floor. We have an on-going bet.

I love it! I may steal parts of it:) I am also planning the same father/daughter dance. My dad used to play it to me/sing it to me when I was a kid. I always knew it would be our 1st dance song! Top 40 is great; it ensures most of your guests know the songs and will be on the dance floor:)

I see “Mandy” in there. Awesome!

Maybe I should consider that, non?

And I’m so glad you posted these because I’m sending off my list to the DJ as I speak!

yEA !!!!!!!!!! totally a top 40 bride here too. No problem with that !

Miss canary, I will be playing don’t stop believin’ at my wedding, and it will CROWD the floor… I challenge anyone not to sing along with gusto to that song (I know my sorority sisters used to squeal and sing with that one !) so I think you’ll take the bet on that one.

OMG I thought I was the only bride in the world who was using Jimmy Buffett ;) we are using Love and Luck as our intro!

Great music lists!

Hahaha…On the subject of Journey, we made “Don’t Stop Believin’” our very last song of the evening and people went WILD! It was a great big Karaoke-fest with lots of people belting out “JOURNEY!!!” as soon as that opening lick played! We like to think that The Sopranos stole that song for their finale because of our wedding! :-)

Penguin, you have a ton of crowd-pleasers on there! Half of those were on my playlist too and the dancing just never stopped!

Linda says:

I have Miley Cyrus in my playlist. I’m sure some people will scoff, but I really like dancing to “See you again”. I plan on booging at my wedding!
Thanks for some more slow songs!

I am absolutlly stealing your bridal party entrance song. Many of our bridal party and my FI are huge Parrot Heads (aka Jimmy Buffett fans for anyone not initiated - this would be me pre Mr. Tberry). Fins is perfect!

And thanks for putting up your playlist. Several other Bees have too and between them we will save so much time creating our play list!

Thanks for sharing your playlist. I need all the help I can get because I’ve got tunnel vision about what’s fun to hear on the dance floor.

Awesome choices! If you’re looking to supplement more italian tunes into your wedding playlist - or a great CD to play during your rehearsal dinner, check this out: La Dolce Vita

I saw that and totally thought of you!

Love it Miss Penguin! One of my roomies is getting married next month and Miley Cyrus is ON the playlist just so we can sing and dance… and her mother/daughter dance is to Will.I.Am’s “She Got It From Her Mama.”
